Hello guys,
I have been Supping almost every day for the last 3 weeks and I start to feel quite allot of pain in my articulation specially on my elbow and shoulder!
Not on the bone but more like the tendoins...... up and down of the elbow..
Any suggestions? Is like I'm having a tennis elbow!!!

Yeah that'll happen if you paddle that much. I had it pretty bad for a while but things are a lot better now. The best thing my chiro said was to stretch the muscles linked to the problem tendons regularly a lot. Muscle tightness always seems to show up in screwed up tendons at some time.

Anyway if you're on the water that much in conditions as nice as they look from your photos then you deserve a bit of pain.

Sam.

Hi Janke,
rest is the answer, unfortunately. I overdid my paddling a bit later than this last year. It caused the sciatic nerve to give me grief. I have never had so much pain, I could not even walk up the beach.
The sciatica did not cause me trouble when I went SUP surfing, but I kept on prolonging the trouble by continuing to surf. It wasn't until the first school hols of this year that I had the time to rest, I did not want to, but the flu put me in bed for a few days and we were on hols at Thredbo. By the time we got back the sciatica was clearing up, it finally went away during the lull in surf we had after those school hols.

Rest Janke Rest!

Try not gripping your paddle so hard - relax on your follow through and this might help with the elbow joint pain.

I would also look at the length of your paddle as it might be to long - hence the should pain.

I would even look at a Carbon Kevlar shaft as it has slightly more flex that the full carbon paddles.

Might have to look at RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Exercises (to help strengthen)) after each session - stretching will also help

How long is your paddle ? the rule of thumb is 6 to 8 inches taller than your, a shorter paddle puts far less stress on your shoulder.

I find it hard to paddle anything shorter than 12" over my height. (I'm talking flat water paddling)

Also maybe you're trying to pull the paddle back through the water with your lower arm instead of pushing froward more with you top arm?

IMO, you need to treat the guides for length for what they are, a guide. I know I ended going alot shorter than the guided 8 inches and doing it has completely stopped the trips to the chiro. Chris
