I got there about 9am and I could see two sup's out there already.. It was a beautiful day and warm and sunny.. Now to decide.. wettie or boardies?

I went with a wettie and wondered if I'd made the right decision because the water was nice a glassy.. and sooo warm.

Once out the back I could see it was Oliver and Gavin.. and there was a messy side chop from the light easterly wind.. Oliver was in his boardies..

Yeah I can see you Oliver.. Watch where you're going.

Oliver had his new chrome dome Gath on and was on his Romper Stonker board.

Gavin scratches over a wave after getting caught inside.. Gav was on his new Naish 11'4".

Peter soon joined us on his Starboard 11'2"...

... and he heads off to catch one as the weather starts to turn.

The waves started getting very inconsistent but there was the odd good sets coming through.. My 10' Mana was just the right board for me.

Gav and I waiting for a wave.

One minute it's clear sky and sunshine.. The next it's pissing down.. Arrrr that's beautiful Melbourne weather for ya..

Peter and Oliver share a wave while the rain still bucketed down.. Jeez I love being on the water during heavy rain.. The waves also picked up a bit.

Scott came out to join us on a 9'6" PSH board.

Where did all the waves go?

It was getting so cold you could hang your jacket off Olivers nipples.. so we headed in because the waves seem to have gone.

Driving off I notice the sun has come back.. and also the waves.. Bugger!

I stopped and watched as one lone SUP'er played on the nice waves and it was warm and sunny again.. What to do.. Go back out.. or eat?

I thought of Dogman and did the right thing..

Left home before 7 this morning and drove to Glen Iris to work, wasnt at work for too long then drove from Glen Iris to Flinders, SUP'd at Flinders until midday'ish and drove from Flinders to Kilcunda, surfed Kilcunda for a few hours and drove home. Surprisingly, only 300 km's. I felt like I was driving all day. I can't really feel my arms, but great day for sure!!!

Why does it matter? You wear your boardies over your wettie anyway

I knew I could count on your Mac..... I've been on a diet and it's working. Lost 6 kilos in 6 weeks.

You are the first person to notice, other than my wife in that time.

No rice, potatoes, pasta, pastries, fizzy drinks, fruit drinks, bread, sauces, junk food, less alcohol, half an hour exercise per day and lots of water is what I'm doing. The first week I lost 4kg the last five weeks have been a bit of a slog - but slowly my weight is dropping. Hope to get to 85 in two weeks - only a few kilos to go. Onya Mac for noticing.

I read this article 6 weeks ago and thought I'd try it: http://blogs.news.com.au/news/splat/index.php/news/comments/how_to_lose_8_kilograms_in_2_months/

Hey Gav, how was Kili? I was keen to get down there but things messed my day up.

DJ, it didn't rain a drop in Melbourne today. It was all just Flinders and Rosebud. Seriously!

DJ forgot to say but there was a freakin whale washed up on the beach - I kind of thought that was significant.

At least it was low tide so it's odour wouldn't have been attracting any big noah's as much!

Awesome !! Pies !! Too funny !!

Seemed to be fine all day here on the west coast (Vic). Beautiful weather here today (did not get your sun showers).

The Vic Wetsuit Debate ;

The water is not that cold and you stand above the board a fair bit.... a guy today at Point Roadknight (I'm a fan of the full names, not PRK) stripped out of his wetsuit, mid session. I was in boardies & rashie today. But I have my eyes firmly fixed on a 1mm long sleeve wetsuit rashie.

Then after the 1mm hotsuit, comes spring-suit. But guys are doing full steamers now !!!..... fair enough for normal surfing, but when your above the waterline for like 90-96% of the session, you don't need rubber dudes !!

(any red thumbs, you're wasting your time numb nuts !! )

I rekon the 2mm short arm steamer is perfect for conditions at the moment. It comes down to wind, time of day etc as well.
Thats the wetty I wear the most days a year. What you mean by the thumbs?

Weird with the rain Dj. I stayed down at Balnarring overnight and checked Suicide and flinders around 6.45am. It was a major low-tide and really flat, so I passed. Heading to the Prom in the morning for 4 days, so hoping it will yield the goods!

I think you guys may be softening up a bit. I had a a vest in the boot. However, when I went out the sun was shining, the water wasn't cold and I thought to myself it's probably the last day for a few months before I get to feel some sun on my back - go on just do it.

I did and it was fine.

Oliver, I'm a boardy & rashie bandit in Vicco still! (for SUP, since you're above waterline for a fair chunk).... black rashie works well / sun adsorption .... (not to be confused with absorption _ I've always had trouble with those two... am I right or wrong !)

Bnaccas - the thumbs are a reference to peoples approval or disapproval ! Mostly disapproval probably.... don't worry about them.... mostly they are neutral....

couldn't agree more!! I wear boardies and a black longsleeve rashie for most of the year,i didn't go to a 3x2 wettie last year until the end of May, and that was more because of wind chill
