I've been wanting a wood SUP paddle for ages but because I'm so used to the narrow oval Kialoa shaft with it's light springy feel when paddling any other wood paddle it just feels bad to me being either too fat or too soft or too stiff.
When I used the new Naish wood blade paddle with its carbon shaft it got me thinking... btw.. It's a nice paddle even with its round shaft and fat T handle... and pretty big blade.
A few months ago I looked in to buying a wood Kiaola outrigger paddle and chopping off the blade a gluing it onto a carbon Kialoa shaft and when I asked Kialoa about this Dave Chun offered to make me a one-off wood Methane blade that I could use with a carbon Kialoa shaft.
Kialoa have been making wood outrigger paddles for about 18 years now so it's no surprise as to just how well it turned out.. It's absolutely beautify and paddling with it is a dream.. I've found that Kialoa are the nicest people to deal with and IMO they make the best SUP paddles in the world.
Today I took some pictures of my beautiful wood Kialoa Methane.. Too many pics I know but it was too hard to pick out just a couple to post.. .. Thanks Dave Chun and I hope you don't mind me posting these pics.
Nice one DJ, will it be a standard model or is it just a "one off"? The wood blade looks wider than a methane. Is that just the photos or have you measured it?

It's a 'one-off' and it's exactly the same.. I think my camera has a slightly wide angle lens and that's why it looks slightly different.
It would be nice if they added this to their range but I don't think they have any plans to do that.
is that a kiaola paddle ?...sorry just taking he piss...now how many times does Kiaola appear in the pics and on your board...this isn't an attempt at subliminal advertising is it..?????
I like the pic with the paddle in the water the best.... very arty.
Hey DJ, I noticed you do your cruising paddle sessions more often on your 12 glide rather than the 14'? Why is that if you dont mind me asking?
If you lift a 12' Glide on and off the roof of the car.. and to the waters edge from where I park.. and then do the same with the 14.. you will know why.
The 14 is a pretty big and heavy board compared to the 12.
I also bump in to people on my daily paddles that want to have a go at SUP.. and it's better to let them have a go on the 12 than 14.
I will use the 14 for down-winders and big distance paddles like across to Phillip Island and stuff like that.

No pic of the paddle in profile ?
Just a big fan of Kialoa paddles.. That's all.. and I tried to get a small Kialoa sticker for my car and all I could get was these huge ones that look good on a board.
I love taking pictures and mucking around with macro and stuff like that.. .. I still struggle getting the horizon level sometimes..
Here's another paddle in the water shot that I liked.
I see no smiley face and assuming it's not a sarcastic question.. yes I have more pics..
My plan was take about 20 pics hoping to get a few good ones.. and they all turned out pretty good.
Those who thinks this is just advertising for Kialoa or Naish don't need to look but here's the rest of my pics.. Some are similar to the ones already posted..
It was a beautifil still morning down at St Kilda and I kept thinking.. that might make a good shot..
Anyone coming to the Mambo is welcome to have a go of my wood Methane.
