Hi

im a UK firefighter and RNLI Beach Lifeguard and I need some help choosing a proper prone paddle board for a world record long distance board paddle attempt that im planning for 2018.

My longest paddle so far has been 28 miles on old RNLI Gainsford Rescue board which I borrowed for the day but as you can imagine its not going to be anywhere near my requirement for my next challenge which is to paddle the longest part of the Irish Sea approximately 80 miles.

I will have all the necessary support crew that's required but unsure as to what sort of board would be best for my size and weight.

I am currently 1.80m high and weigh 70kg.

Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

You are going to need an 18ft unlimited board like they use in Molakai but will be very expensive to get one in the UK , have a look at ;-

Or at least a 14. In the UK Naish would be your best bet. Have a look at the Javelin Maliko

He said prone paddleboard.

Gotta be thinking Bark. Maybe a custom UL, but you might try something shorter first, especially if money is an issue. If I were you I'd probably contact Joe Bark himself at Bark Paddleboards and see what he recommends. World record attempts probably need world record equipment.

FirePomme30 You may have confused this forum, which is for "Stand up Paddleboarding" with a prone Paddleboarding forum... not really the same thing, I am afraid you won't find a lot of help here...

Have you asked Peter Gainsford if he will build you a 14fter or16fter in the UK

I lifeguarded in the 90s in Perranporth he made good quality boards and skis

if your looking for more advice

check out Damien Rider he paddled solo from the Gold Coast to Sydney

Whoops my bad... Well you cant go past JM boards Jamie Mitchell 10 times straight world champion prone Molokai race. Contact them direct , if it works out too expensive to ship one from Aus (heaps of second hand ones here) Jamie will have contacts world wide for a used one .

i have an unlimited prone board, if you are looking at paddling that sort of distance you would at least want a 14 foot board, if you've done 28 miles on a 10'6 rescue board you could probably paddle that far on a stock 12 foot prone board but its not going to be much fun if you get some current or wind thats not in your favor, so a 14 foot would be suitable for your weight, but an unlimited board would be even better
