I came from the 9-3 allrounder. I have now had the 8-9 ripper for 8 months. I was debating going the wide, glad I didn't. I have been fortunate to ride the board in a number of varying conditions on points, reefs, bombies and beachies. I ride with a quad set up.
What is your surfing background? What SUP board are you coming from?
The board is fast and responsive. Can take a steep takeoff on a good size wave, but also fun on a small beach break. It is pretty stable, I have found front foot (surf stance) paddling is better than the traditional parallel stance. It is easy paddling through broken waves, the nose really leads and does a semi duck dive. If you are after a short board feel it is a sensational board. Fast bottom turns, nice sharp re-entries, great control off the white water, speed around sections and fun stable lip bashes. I wish I could only do all that!
As you can tell I enjoy the board.

I also have the 8'9 ripper, great all-round board, can be a bit tippy if not used to a 28" wide board. Surfs real good, very positive in feel and fast. Paddles in early for a shorter sup, pretty much rolled v bottom all the way through which gives it a nice feel rail to rail ( not much delay ) handles chop real good. Can surf knee high to double over head waves ( really nice pulled in rounded pin). Not as loose as my Laguna Bay, but for an all round high performance surfing Sup, cant go wrong for off the shelf.

probaby the best production board for me. same review as the post above. looseness is not the key for me. drive and reaction is. looseness is overrated with out the other parts. extreme looseness just looks silly

it would still be the board of choice for me if i get back to surfing sups and get a production board.
cheers
