Im heading down to SA for a race this weekend.

Luckily i have a board down there i can paddle, but I'm taking my own paddle with me.

Booked a flight with QANTAS.
According to their new baggage allowances you can only check 1 bag (regardless of weight). (not a 10kg wheelie and a paddle)

So im checking a 1kg paddle, and having to take my luggage on as hand luggage.

What a farken joke.

Does qantas want everyone to fly Virgin or what??
I bet Sir Richard is laughing all the way to his private kite island.

Aussie airline my arse.
I hope they go offshore and stay there!

What happened to their Sporting Good allocation?

I remember the good old days taking my Trekking Backpack & a Board Bag stuffed with board, wettie, towels, t-shorts etc... Taking them to Tassie on Qantas. Pack was probably 15kg, and board bag stuffed full was probably 12-14kg. All included in the price back then. Sporting Good weren't even weighed then.

Yep!!! At xmas I packed 2 boards and all gear into one coffin - came in at 21kg and took a small backpack as hand luggage. Not a worry in the world. The check in chick even asked me if I wanted to check in backpack for no extra cost. Quality Virgin. Love it. Never ever will I pay $$$$ to jetstar or qantas again.

Yeah Qantas/Jetstar are farked - especially with the new one bag rule it pretty much takes Qantas out of the picture for OS trips with boards.

We just flew virgin to Bali (my family of 6) with 2 sups 3 shortboards and paddle bag with 3 paddles and 6 pieces of baggage, thats 12 pieces in total. I still could have taken my wife's 10 footer as well.

I got stung by them last October coming back from Sydney with a new board. Originally they were going to charge me $40 for two paddles as they were classified as two seperate itmes. So I taped them together so they only charged me $20. I played the sporting goods card but aparently they changed it at the start of last year, even though i had travelled at Easter with two boards and paddles.

Flew British airways recently, and coz they code share with Qantas they tried to slug me $300.00 for excess on the return flight with Q. I had to argue - and argue, and keep arguing that i booked on BA and went one way no problem, and I had no control that they code share with Qantas and their stupid 1 bag rule didnt apply.

Finally let me off - never again will I fly Qantas!!!!

About a week ago, my wife booked 5 flights on Qantas' website to go to a conference in USA. Their wesbite crashed numerous times (at least 5) in the booking process, and it got one of her flight times wrong. Just spoke with Qantas on the phone, and they refuse to change it unless we pay an absurd $200 change fee. This is another reason why people HATE Qantas. Their website stuffs up, and the customer is expected to pay.

Was there a restriction on board length? 11ft?

dont blame the hard working australian men and women that work at qantas, blame management and that ridiculous irish git ceo, who is trying to gut the airline and turn it into a global jetstar.

I flew Air Pacific to Fiji last August and had no probs checking in my 14ft Sup.
Cost nothing extra either way ( they charge $50 from Sydney for bulky goods but the nice lady at check in waivered it).
Turned a few heads at the airport though as the custom Sup cover which was oversized made it look 1 metre wide x 15ft.

You would think, with QANTAS being so called "AUSTRALIAN" and with most australians surfing in some regards, that they would help out customers.

I used to fly with QANTAS for one reason only, they had good sporting goods allowances.

Virgin are loving it, they don't have to do anything and QANTAS is slowly kiiling themselves.

The virgin hosties are way hotter anyway...

Yes. The length restriction domestically is 1.9 meters on Jetstar.

Qantas now only allow one piece of checked baggage.

I would never fly Qantas OR Jetstar unless it was a free ticket.
