Hey all.
Have had a QB Kanaha paddle for a while now, cut fairly long 6" over head height. Love the paddle but starting to find the 110 blade a bit much, and striking the nose of the board a fair bit as I change sides. Will definitely keep for flat water or long hauls to a break.
Had a Naish Wave LE sitting around doing nothing, so cut it down to just over head height to try it out in the surf. Really like the blade size reduction to a 95" and the length is so much more manoeuvrable in the waves, but not liking the shaft flex at all.
Looking at another QB specifically for the surf.
Has anyone tried or owned the V Drive or Trifecta?
Feedback would be appreciated...........

Don't be afraid to consider the Starboard Bolt.

The QB's are awesome and proven but the Starby is similar to the V-drive but at a more affordable price point.

I have a large Bolt with a 35 stiffness oval shaft.

Approx. 93 square inches but pulls like a 100.

It's a gem.

I may as well have not paddled tonight. Flatter than a mashed cat.

Nothing wrong with the paddle just the motor.

?
The QB website says the Trifecta is excellent for surfing, and the V Drive is great for catching waves.
Just asking if anyone has used either in the surf, and what their thoughts are. Cheers.

Hey Brenno,

I bit the bullet late last year took out another mortgage and bought a QB V-drive (tapered oval shaft) specifically for surfing. Its a great paddle and I love it. I am 100kgs and riding a SB widepoint. It has great flex/ reflex through your power stroke for wave catching in my opinion and they are super lite n strong. Hope this helps,
Robbo

Reading everything online.... V-drive has a more powerful, instant catch vs trifecta with softer catch which may be the feel you want in your surf paddle?
I would get one of them but I have gone for a dedicated surf paddle Kialoa GL2 (when it turns up in march) :)

Cheers Robbo.
How long (or short) have you gone for with your V Drive?

I have both the V Drive (in two sizes) and the Trifecta in 86. They are both really great paddles. But the V Drive would be my choice for a surf paddle, unless you have shoulder problems. It has a more initial bite, and is more forgiving of half-snatched and hurried strokes.
