Sorry, forgot to mention all races will be at Elwood Beach/Sailing Club.
Emphysis fun, fun and more fun. Should be good as people will be able to see themselves improve at each event.

Another good thing is that it will be a short course so anyone can have a go... It should be more about fun rather than pain..

I'll be there for sure..

It's great to see Starboard finally getting behind SUP here in Vic.

Let's hope Dean brings up his 20'er...

these are timed paddles in that they are 40, 60 and 80 minute paddles (from the website). Does that mean it will be some sort of circuit and you will do as many circuits in the allotted time?

Cheers,
Ronnie

I duno DJ....You sure it will work on such a short course ?
It takes the 20'er 200 meters to get to top speed......then another 50 meters to slow down for a 180 turn....& LOTS of turns......40 or so if turns were quick...but there not quick.....so maybe 30 turns...I have trouble doing 1

OK...so the first race is 40 minutes around 2 bouys that will be 250m apart (this is further than you think). If you do 10 laps then thats 5kms.
- The 2nd race is 60 minutes as above
- The 3rd race is 80 minutes

To give you an idea the SHQ Cerebus race is about 6kms and it takes the average person about 50 minutes so the 80 minute paddle will be
a big effort! What I like about this concept is Matt Lumley (winner of Cerebus event) will have to paddle as long as the rest of us!! The harder
you try the more buggered you will be at the end. Thats an incentive not to try too hard in my books!

We are also looking at a "head to head" knockout sprint race format for before or after the main event. At this stage there will be
2 bouys about 30m offshore and it will be a simple out and back. But this is still to be finalised.

Hope this info helps. Either way each event will be fun and you need to be in it to have a chance at winning the new Starboard SUP.

Hey Yoda I think you have an advantage on the 20fter when you think about it!

you could use the never seen before Yoda miracle turn you showed me!

That would take a few by surprise

I might have a crack at this event myself, just to find me a big enough marlin spike for the front of the gun to use in the turns!

It is full contact Brendon or do you has to play nice????? lol.

Hey Dean, can't you just paddle it forward to the bouy then turn yourself around and
paddle the board backwards back to the inside bouy? That could almost make sense
over a short course like this!

A question for everyone that might be at these events...

Is 250m a good distance for between the 2 turning bouys? Would people prefer 200m, 100m etc?

Hey there to anyone that is thinking of coming along for the first of 3 races.

The prize pool will now include fine, quality paddling products from progressive companies like Balin, Flying Objects and others.

Brenny....DJ and I were dicussing a possible course last Saturday and there are apart from the 2 wooden posts, also 2 marker bouys that just so happen to form a perfect rectangular course! Distance around would be approx 400m and allow paddlers to then paddle upwind, across and downwind. There would also be no cross-chop to contend with from other competitors on the course and a whole lot easier for me to count the laps everyone will be churning out!

Sound ok?

Cross chop!?! I forgot the wake a SUP leaves behind is massive.

Sounds good to me..

Plus there's less chance of a head on with someone with their head down going for it and not looking where they're going..

I also like the idea of a downwind bit.. but no wind at all would be even better.

How's the weathers' form? 2 weeks of near perfect paddling weather and this is the forecast for tomorrow morning.

Forecast for Sunday
Winds: Northerly 5 to 15 knots tending south to southwesterly during the
morning and freshening to 15 to 25 knots and possibly 30 knots for a period
before gradually easing back to 10 to 15 knots late in the afternoon and
evening and tending westerly. Seas: 0.5 to 1.0 metre increasing 1 to 2 metres
later in the morning then decreasing below 1 metre in the evening.

Given that we have attracted a few new paddlers to contest this event, I've made the call to postpone the event in order to get conditions more conducive to fun racing.

The possible re-schedule dates are 6th or 13th Dec. If these over-lap with any other events, we may run it on a Sat morning [5th or 12th Dec].

Keep your eye out on this post and check the RPS and Sup Vic websites for the new race date.

Cheers

So the RPS race is off (for the moment) .. What a bummer .. After all this perfect paddling weather that we've had.

If anyone knows someone who was going to do the RPS race tomorrow please contact them and let them know it's off so the don't turn up for nothing.

It will now be on the Sunday the 6th of December... See you there.

The 6th of December will be OK as the SUP Bus event that was scheduled for that date has also
been postponed. It's a bummer, I was looking forward to what would have been trying conditions.

I'm still a fan of the 2 buoy course rather than the square course. The closeness of the competitors
would add to the specticle and excitement. If everyone travels say clockwise around the course
then there should be no collisions.

I think the correct call was made for the race!!!!

Wind hit just about the same time we would've been hitting the water.

Bugger about this, loaded the car and was on my way, raining quite heavy & thought I best have a quick look at the site to see if all is Ok & then I saw it was postponed.

Could have been worst, could have made the drive and been on my own, I also started replying to the post stating it was called off and then the power went off. (was not meant to be)

Next SUP event in Vic is Outlaw at Lorne on the 5th Dec, maybe with the couple off events that have just been cancelled it should be a good show. Reg-o at www.outlawpaddleing.com Next-time.
