In order to help aid Jonathon in preparing for his Hawaiian epic, it only seems fit to up the distance for this coming week's dawny.

A quick chat with a few of the regular attendees sees us paddling to Fawkner Beacon on either Wednesday or Thursday morning.

Meeting place will be Green Point at 6.45am for a 7am start.

Duration of the paddle should be around 2 1/2 hours.

Ideally, people interested in this session should be paddle-fit and own or have the use of a reasonably quick flatwater board.

Hydration, food and pfd are advisable.

Jonathon and DJ have paddled this course numerous times, so we'll have their experience to draw on.

Stay tuned!

Righto!

We've got a few takers for our Super Session. At this stage the forecast is

Forecast for Wednesday
Winds: East to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots. Seas: 0.5 to 1 metres.

Given that it will be relatively calm at dawn, we may get the paddle finished before the breeze decides to freshen. [ If at all].

Green Point at 6.45 for a 7am start.

If the breeze is foiling us, then we can hug the coast and perhaps paddle upto the Cerebus.

Either way, we'll paddle!

Okay, it's on. Should give me just enough time to recover from yesterday.

Yep, agree totally.

DJ kept me pretty honest.

I parked and launched from Hampton [ stupidly, in the end].

And had to paddle back to the car in that ridiculous 25 knot N/Wester.

That's the real reason I'm sore!

Yeah.. It was good to have a day off paddling today.. Even I'm a bit sore but I don't think it's from the 35min race.. It's more likely from our 1.40 min down-winder that turned into a no-winder that we did after the race.

I'll be there wed morning ready to paddle.. Those who don't have two hours to paddle to the beacon and back come along anyway.. There's some that will just paddle part of the way and head back so they can get to work on time.

I'll trade that for a nasty black bruise in the small of my back courtesy of that uncomfortable and ineffective canoe. So if anyone asks 'why stand up paddle', you can tell from me that sitting down to paddle is a pain in the ****.

To add to the pain, even though I had anticipated "NOT" to paddle today.

[Thought the BOM guys would have got the 20-30 kt SW half right and I would have been able to take the afore-mentioned...actually see below, for a kite!]

DJ, this is for you....Ended up taking a couple of my F1 Race engineer mates [from Ferrari] for a stroke in choppy, 8 knot onshore, rain-infested Pt Phillip crap!

Fortunately it was sunny and warm, but there was NO WAY I was even going to contemplate falling in. I dressed my friends up in some radiation-proof neoprene to try and inhibit any Bay contamination.

They did enjoy it, but for a first outing, I think I failed them.

Looks like we've got 7 confirmed starters that I'k aware of.

[providing Jonathon shows, after all it's for his benefit!]

Probably no Cam Boyle from my end - when I told him he'd need to pack food and hydration and leave the 10' Mana at home he started to get nervous. Next time, maybe.

Didn't you get an ashtray installed for him on the 10'0" Mana?

That way he'd have an armchair ride out to the Beacon.

Forecast

Forecast for Wednesday
Early morning mist of fog patches clearing to a mainly sunny day. Winds south
to southeasterly averaging up to 25 km/h.

Forecast for fog is good, usually means naf all wind!

Morning mist of fog patches suggests we might need flash lights mounted front and rear of boards to avoid crashing into each other.

Goodluck guys! Looks like it will be a calm and COLD paddle.
If you need to warm up, just jump in the water!

Didn't get to Fawkner Beacon due to a stubborn e/se wind.

BUT, we still did a very pleasant Point to Point [ Green pt to Pt Ormond return].

Glassy as on the way there and a slight headwind on the way back. Probably 8 - 9 kms, so 3 or 4 kms short of the Fawkner trip, but a pleasant workout nonetheless.
And we got to paddle the first few kms in moonlight!!

DJ, ya shoulda made the effort!
