Here is a problem for the more southern surf riders. I can't find a rash vest that actually works. My God my underarms are killing me after a long session paddling. Talk about putting deodorant on the next morning (and women complain about waxing).
Are there any rashies that really work?

Are you rinsing the rashy in fresh water after each use?

I have found working some vasoline into the rashy in areas where chaffing occurs helps alot. It doesnt wear off for a few uses.

As silly as this sounds, is the rash shirt tight enough? Some people buy lose fitting rash shirts think that they will do the job of protection, when in actual fact the idea of a rash shirt is that it should be body hugging to prevent from chaffing/rash. Otherwise I agree with TheGoodDr make sure you wash it out after use or make sure you don't have an alergic reaction to the materials that are used

When I first realised I needed to cure that exact problem, I was holidaying in Margaret River with little/no money in winter. 5 days of surfing with a biting wetsuit rash is not fun. catching waves hurts! TheGoodDr is spot on. Even better, apply the vasoline right on top of the rashing. works a charm. if there's no vasoline around, use the closest alternative.

As strange as this may sound, I recently had the same problem so tried putting another rashie on (two rashies) to my suprise it worked.
This was rashie only not under wetsuit. if your wearing rashie under wettie, try not wearing rashie.

I agree with Towny and dtm. I forgot my rashie once and found it was the best thing I ever did. I was getting a rash around my neck and had to keep pulling my rashie up thinking that my wetsuit was giving me the rash. Nope. It was the rashie giving me the rash. If you have a good wettie then there is no need for a rashie Rashie

Thanks heaps for the feedback. For years I've just always worn a rashie I suppose from habit. I'll take the advise of ditching it, see how it goes.
This is what makes this site great.
Thanks again

No need for a rash vest with modern wetsuits. In case your wetsuit gives you some rash, just apply vaseline on the wetsuit (seams, edges), it will last many sessions.

Polypropylene (polar vest material) rash guards can be an option: they provide actual warmth and are softer to the skin than standard rash guards, but I didnt use it anymore with modern wetsuits either.

I get this problem about once a year. I put it down to having lot's of underarm hair and it pulling on the wetsuit.

I usually clipper my underarm hair short and find that really helps out. Plus, when your wearing a tight t-shirt, it doesn't look as though your smuggling spiders under your arms anymore.

I agree with the others - ditch the rashie. If you have a decent wettie you shouldn't need it. If you still are getting rashes, then re-evaluate your wettie.

lent my good wetsuit to my son, he must have got out of the wettie on some thistle grass as now its all prickly when worn, thought about giving him a beating but at 6ft 4 in, somehow that won't do me any good. any advice on what to do about the wetsuit?
