Yesterday channel nine were filming their 'Today' show weather from St Kilda beach and I was asked if I wanted to come down and be filmed paddling around in the background.. I said is the Pope Catholic..
I loaded my boards the night before so I'd be ready for a 6am start and I woke to ice on the Glides.
I brought two boards with plans to get the weather girl on a board but with the freezing conditions she didn't trust me when I said "don't worry.. You won't fall in".
So.. as the sun came up I paddled my 17' Glide around in perfect Autumn conditions as they set up to film with me in the background.
PT and Jonathan came down to join in the action.. Glass, glass.. beautiful glass.
The filming went well and a few friends called me and said that they saw me on the telly.. At one time with their low camera angle it looked like we were paddling across the sand.. Also a tv commentator said it looked like we were sweeping leaves.. .. Oh well.
We swapped boards and while on the K15 I was looking for the bilge pump after getting swamped by a big set.
Paul had to go to work so I was back on the 'beautiful thing' and paddled with Jonathan around the St Kilda marina in perfect glassy conditions.. What a shame Autumn ends today.. Not much of an Autumn this year.. Bummer.
We spotted this very unusual sailing boat and checked it out.. Has anyone seen a boat like this before?
It looks like it can be sailed both ways without having to turn/tack/gibe.. Very weird.. and the mast/sail looks like it can spin around.
that boat looks like a harryproa , designed by an australian, goes both ways, shunts rather than tacking or gybing, I have sailed one in NZ and considered buying it but found it a bit weird, they are pretty fast but not every ones cup of tea, google harryproa if you are interested they have a website.
Jean and I hit the water at 6.30am yesterday, didn't feel that cold strangely enough, but as DJ mentioned, air temp was brisk and eventually the bay temp will bottom out at around 10 degrees C.
Tomorrow's session will be 5 degrees and foggy and a few weeks back we had a 4 degree morning. Just quiz aspaceman on that one. He went in a few times and it was just painful watching him!

Neh, it's alright once you're in
