If people don't like something they can just click on a red thumb and get it off their chest without it descending into a classic internet slanging match.
The next question is whether the number of red and green thumbs people get should be displayed or affect the operation of the forum. Some forums block people for a few days if they get too many negative hits.
I suspect not. That can make things personal and lead to vindictiveness and all sorts of nastiness.

No Thumbs - why because for some strange reason some people get red thumbed for no reason at all. Aren't forums suposed to about discussion not anonomous slagging?
Who gives a rats about thumbs...to be honest I never really noticed them until I read DJ's SUP sign thread...its the interweb everything sneeds to be taken with a grain
The Thumb thing clearly prevents people having a say.
When you see even the top people that have significant experience in the sport no longer contributing on issues then you know this forum is heading down a very bad track.
The number of 1 - 5 post ghost profiles has dramatically increased and they appear to work in a organised fashion to sway the forum one way or another. If you watch the formation of the text its pretty easy to work out who is who.
You only have to follow those profiles into the general area to see thier comments on how they had fun setting up this person or that person to see to them its a game.
I think a more practical solution is to be able to block posts from other members if you dont want to see them.
There really arnt many slanging matches when you consider the volume of posts.
The quality of the content now means like us many people are moving on to other sites.
Phill
It wont change Phill, if ya dont like it.............................................
I don't see any point to the thumbs. Perhaps if Admin put up a thread with the stats on who has posted the most thumbs each week, then it would have a purpose in out'ing the thumbsters.
Mostly, there are no thumbs anyway.... Yes, FAQ section would be good for all. I think the forum is pretty good still. Seeing people's pics of adventures, new boards, etc.... Even if I am a "Johnny-Come-Lately"!
Interesting I posted this like 7 minutes ago and WOW there's a thumb I have had 2 out of 1500 odd posts so not really bothered but I do not like sooks who hide behind something.
If you dont like something put your name to it and say it otherwise your just soft and weak and someone I would hate too surf with as you would be a pussy

Brooko I knocked it out it's probably the 15th red I have done it to over the last couple of days I can't stand them.
If Laurie won't do anything this is the simple way to de power these little "sook pooof nancy boys" so if you see a red just green it and it's gone.If everyone does it there will be no red thumbs anymore.
Who really cares? Does it hurt you so much to see a little red thumb above your post? Or do you get really stoked to get green thumbs? If people are driven away by a few red thumbs you probably shouldn't be on the big, scary interwebs anyway.
I vote:
Yes thumbs
if only because I laugh every time I see one of OG SUP's posts red thumbed (although it hasn't been happening so much lately).
