This might be a simple question for most of you guy's on this forum who have surfed and windsurfed all these year's but a newbie to this i want to do a proper job first time around.

I've removed al the excess wax but still have a fine layer left on the board, what i need to know is what is the best way or product to use to get rid of this without damaging the finish on the board?

Oh yeah i'm doing this so i can stick on my new naish camo deck pad which the good and very pregnant wife and daughter gave me for my birthday.

Cheers fella's

Scrape whatever wax you can with a plastic scraper. Once that's done then get out the rp7 and wipe the rest off with paper towling. Probably best to remove the residual rp7 with some soapy water. Worked well for me without side effects.

Foam dust from a surfboard shaper works a treat and no chemicals.

Leave in sun scrap off most then finish with a couple of handfuls of the white powder.

Scrape off the excess with a wax comb then use mineral turpintine , then use soapy water to remove the turps, after that use some metho, I have done this twice and a big tip is to do it properly the first time and be extra thourough because you don't want to be out having a lovely paddle around and your deck grip starts to float away [}:)] trust me I know !!.

Now if it doesn't adhere then you need to go to Bunnings a get some "fast grip" contact cement (not the "gel" one) just the regular contact and make sure your grip and board is completely dry apply to bothsides with a brush let it go tacky (around fifteen minutes) stick it down and its on for good do it in sections maybe a third at a time thats if the whole lot comes off if not make sure you pry it up gently to where has stuck and dry it off or the contact will go mushy as I say nightmare!!
To avoid this nightmare clean it off really well the first time and you won't have any probs.

I did this a few months back. I was told Turps as well followed by Metho afterward to get the turps off and dry it.

I use prepsol or wax and grease remover which is the same thing. Prepsol can be purchased at Supa Cheap auto, etc. After the wax has been scraped off you saturate a piece of cloth and rub vigorously to disolve the wax residue. You can feel when the wax has been dissolved thru the cloth. After all the wax has been dissolved off the board, saturate a clean cloth and wipe the board all over with long strokes from the nose to the tail, there will be a damp residue left over, at this stage you get another piece of clean cloth and wipe the board dry.

The trick is to put the deck grip on. What I do is mark out the position of the grip with small bits of masking tape. Then I usually start at the front of the grip and peel back a little bit of backing paper maybe 200mm, centre the grip and press down for the glue to stick but only about 100mm then slowly un peel some more backing and press down some more grip and continue in this fashion till the deck is all stuck down. Try and not to stretch the grip as it will stretch.
The tape acts as guides for keeping the grip on centre.

Hope this helps

That is a great vid and a must watch for everyone.

That's exactly the way I have done a few boards now.

A good clean and wipe with window cleaner first.

This stage takes time..measure and recheck and tape down edges to hold things in place as you go.

Cut a one inch strip along the inside edge..It can be lifted again once it's touched down in case it's not perfect.

Once it's down and in the right place lift up the pad and reach under to peal off the rest of the backing.

Then push down working from the center out to prevent trapping air bubbles.

If you want to be a bit more enviromentally friendly, use a citris based label remover. Can buy at most hardware stores.

its a shame they havent raised the graphics on the naish 09 boards higher so the grip doesnt cover it

if the new grip wasnt so good i'd just use wax

the raised edges are great

I recon the person who develops a transparent grip on a sup will be a millionaire, just like the guy who invented leash plugs. I love the wooden grain and the hawain pattern on my aircraft carrier naish - I really had a hard time covering it up with grip. There is some really nice styling that has gone into the development of the boards.

There is some transparent 3M stuff, that I looked into, that could also work as deckgrip - however, I felt it was a little coarse and would be likely to rip your feet and body if not wearing a wetsuit.
