Hey all i have a 404 Zeedonk Green Label (Carbon fiber) that has 2 small chips in the clear layer of the board. I am looking for some advice on how to fix it up. The Carbon fiber is not damaged at all. It's just 2 very small areas. I've been told to use clear nail polish, but that seems so simple that i have my doubts about it working.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

its just cosmetic, I’d apply some of this for peace of mind re: integrity issues - suncure.com/scinstructions.html

Thanks! Being that it's winter here, can Suncure be applied to the board in a warm, dry garage?

It's best applied with some direct sunlight. .. 5 mins will do so unless you are in the midst of 5 months of 24 hour darkness you'll be right.

It hardens quickly and have some paper towel/rags/hot soapy water to clean up excess.

For all UV curing resins: Solarez, Suncure, Doctor Phix, etc... here are the mandatory steps:

- lightly sand everything that the resin will touch, otherwise it wont stick long. If some resin goes over non-sanded parts, I just cut them off afterwards with a cutter blade, to avoid these parts peeling in the future and pulling the whole repair out.
- away from the sun (behind windows is OK: glass stops the UV), apply the resin
- cover snugly with clear PVC adhesive tape (thick flexible clear tape). These resins must not be in contact with the air (oxygen) when curing, otherwise they stay sticky. This is why instructions tell you to put a plastic sheet on top of it, but tape is much more practical and airtight.
- put in the sun. 3mn in summer, more in winter. Can take hours in cloudy winter weather.
- when the resin is setting, I like to push on it with the fingers over the tape to ensure extra bonding. You can also check the hardness of the resin this way.
- pull the tape away, PVC doesn't stick to the resin, it's done. Sand with water for finish. If your board is glossy, a quick glossy finish can be to apply clear automobile acrylic varnish (spray, touch pens), or just polish.

Note that the same method works with normal epoxy resin: sand, resin (+ glass if needed), tape, let cure in some warmth (under a desk lamp for instance) for quick and easy overnight repairs.

Having air contact while curing is what people often do wrong with UV curing resins, and give them bad reputation, you may hear "it will not last long" or "it stays sticky" or "it gets old fast". I have been using 15 year old solarez tubes I have found in an old toolbox without problems. I was having problems too before discovering the PVC tape trick.

Colas, what do you think is a better product to us for small repairs. A uv curing resin like what your talking about or a two part putty like session saver?
