Hi I plan on repairing my broken paddle tomorrow. Using a technique such as
I just did the same to my QB.
I sanded both shafts and had about 50mm inner sleeve either side of the join for extra strength.
Use some carbon rail tape and put some strips along the shaft then tape over after applying resin. Sand after with some 600 wet n dry and go surfing.
If you use a shorter sleeve you will definitely be back fixing it again (i know from first hand experience)

About 10cm then should be the minimum
i also read to let one side of the sleeve insert dry before gluing the other to insure that I don't push the sleeve further down when attaching the second piece of the paddle

I have repaired the broken paddle. It was an adjustable two piece Werner "Nitro". I did contact Werner and they do not sell replacement shafts. They did offer to repair it but quite expensive and offered to replace the paddle at a significant discount. I decided to fix it. The adjustment part of the paddle is a sliding inner sleeve with a stainless steel ferrule that you press on and it clicks into one of several holes on the shaft. The inner sleeve was 28 cm. I cut this down to 14 cm and used the 14 cm piece as the join for the two broken ends. This would be about 4.7 x diameter of paddle shaft. Hot glued everything together and covered the joins and the adjustments holes with gorilla tape. I will still have some adjustment possible by heating up and pushing in or pulling out the handle. Will try it out tomorrow. The paddle is now a bit lighter than when I started (two end cut offs, no metal ferrule and discarded the two rubber plugs that were for preventing significant ingress of water then added a bit of glue and tape).
