Hello, I’m new here so I hope posting this request in this part of the forum is the best place. If not, let us know. I’m looking to help a mate out from Japan. He wishes to go to the Gold Coast and basically live a SUP lifestyle for about 7 days in late February.

I think he has two options:

#1 going cheap with some accommodation near the beach or at least near a waterway (Currumbin Alley for example) or

#2 doing a homestay with a SUP friendly family/couple.

Any advice on the cheap SUP friendly accommodation? Any advice on the homestay idea with a SUP friendly family or couple?

Quick Facts about him: * University student, Japanese Male, 23, polite and respectful * Good English. As long as you don’t use slang or speak a million miles an hour you won’t have a problem. * He will have access to his own SUP board but he may or may not have use of a car. * Works as a casual lifeguard in Japan so ocean awareness and swimming ability is not an issue.

Please post here or private message me if you prefer. Thanks for your time with your advice.

I thought there would be thousands of hotels, apartments, hostels and bed and breakfasts right there on the GC?

Viking I stayed at Currumbin Sands resort for 7 days last year. The ground floor beach apartments are the go, generally a small yard or patio that has gate access to the beach. I think we paid around $160 / night. 200 metre walk up the beach then paddle out. Good position
