After being told time after time fins dont really effect the way a big board like the Kalama surfs I decided to share what I believed to be true with Revvin Kevin.

He purchased a cutaway fin nothing special just ploycarb off the internet and we set it up the same way I did with my Laird 12. The same board they told me you could not do cutbacks on in small surf laughs.

With the original fin set supplied this board was nothing short of a tank, and had the turning circle of the QE2

With after market sides and a nice cut away this was the result!

Keep in mind my camera shoots 10 frames per second in this sequence.

When Revvin Kevin came in he said "I think its just a wee bit too squirrelly now".

He shifted it to the center of the box an loves the way it surfs.

After that he just got silly!

DC 9.4 it isnt, but for a board this size its now a lot of fun!

Its been interesting.

7" shapers dolphin to replace the old 9" southpoint fin, noticable difference in turning.

M5 sides to replace old southpoint sides, noticable difference again.

8" cutaway ausfinco centre and probably the biggest difference in one go.

The Kalama is no hi tech light weight machine but its heaps of fun from less than knee high OG to overhead faces at Damiens its been a good board for me to learn on.

.....and no hernia but I reckon 1 in 10 carries down the beach leads to a crook neck...my chiro doesnt mind!
