Next Wednesday 4th Feb .
Australian and International sporting stars will be visiting JAN JUC as part of the Australian Sports Commission's Indigenous Sports Program surfing based poject.

Laureus World Sports Academy members,

Layne Beachley
Cathy Freeman
Steve Waugh
Robby Naish
Daley Thompson (UK athlete)

All will take part in the activities on Wednesday.

The ASC's Indigenous Sports Program supported by the Laureus Sports for Good Foundation, helps to increase the number of Aborigines participating in sport.
Children from the Wathaurong community will take part in activities on the beach and will include traditional indigenous games , surfing technique lessons , saftey , ocean awareness surf lessons and a mini surfing competition to end the event.

Legendary former World Champions Layne Beachley and Robbie Naish will also give a Surfing demonstration.

I'm just about to head off to Torquay to (hopefully) catch up with Robby...and Rich, Mat and all the Torquay guys.

I'll try and get some pics... Fingers crossed for good waves and glass (15-20 knots onshore is forcast )... but it should be fun no matter what..

I remember windsurfing with Robbie years ago (like '93ish I think) here for a couple hours and we only talked for maybe 1/2 an hour. Then I went to Maui 2 years later and he remembered my name. I was blown away as I was only 18yrs old.
One of the nicest blokes in the world!

I would have loved to come down today to see if he even recognised me. 15 yrs later, approx 10kg heavier (all muscle...not), and short hair. I doubt it but wouldn't be suprised!

Yeah, the guys at Torquay are a great bunch of guy's.

I reckon you maybe refering to Dean Snow. He got me sucked into this great sport of ours, and makes a mean SUP.
Remember the surname, his got 2 young boys that are killing it on kites at the moment.

I also met Dale years ago windsurfing, small world.

Dean and Dale are very proficient kiters as well.

Daley did not try SUP in fact non of them did.. Not even Robby.

It was way too rough for anyone to have a go at SUP..Maybe if it was flat and glassy they would have given it a go.

The day was for the kids although Layne Beachly did take Daley out for a surfing lesson..and he did pretty good.

Daley was a real hoot and the others were always joking around with him.
