Today I caught up with Robdog at Clubies on 13th beach. The swell was there but a 15 - 25kn offshore breeze proved to be a real challenge. We met in the carpark and decended the long stairs to the beach. We then swapped boards and ventured out into the wind and surf. I was concerned that i would not be able to stand on the 10"6 wide in the wind but it wasnt a problem. Robdog has swapped the standard fins in the board for a 5inch Glide centre fin and 2 x raptor sidefins. These fins work a treat.

I was able to seriously throw this board around and it never missed a beat. I ventured to the nose in the shore break reform and it just clung to the wave with my 105kg perched cheater 5 style. I dont think the 12ft Laird did it nearly as well.

Fighting the wind was a serious issue and after about 2hrs we finally gave in. I saw Rodbog grab a number of waves and he has some great style going on. He was really impressed with the 11 ftr as was I and I think the 11 would perform better than the 10"6 in bigger waves.

On my next trip down his way we will hook up for a surf.

Huge thank you to Robdog for allowing me to try his board and I will be tracking one down this week.

I have met serveral Breezers in the last 3 weeks and I have to say all have been very friendly and great people.

Cant wait for the 13th of June comp in OG

Phill.

Mac,

On the 10"6 wide all i had to do was think about it and apply the smallest amount of pressure and I was cutting back. It held a rail really well and it nose rides like a gem and i cant really nose ride, well till now anyway.

I think the fin set up Robdog has in it is superb and I am going to use the same fins.

I hesitated to say short board performace but it certainly turns better than any Mal I have ridden and leaves all of the other 13 paddle boards I have tried for dead.

I loved the 11 in bigger surf its just a weapon and it too for my weight turns on a dime.

I hope Robdog will give us his thoughts!!!!!

Phil

Brooko,

Thanks for suggesting I try the 10'6 it was a great call.

With low tide 13th and the rediculous wind etc it wasnt a pretty site. Robdog just took it all in his stride. He got hammered less times than me just due to his skill. I remembered looking at him droppining in a few times thinking hmmm, that wont be tidy and then watching him appear from behind the white water and cruise into the reform.

I had already surfed for 3 hours in the morning so when I went out for tea with some friends last night I took an unexpected nanna nap on the couch laughs.

It was a fun day and I kinda see myself on the nose a bit more now so thats a bonus. I still cant work out how with the hard edges in the tail it works that well but hey who cares it just does!!!!

Robdog tells me you guys might come up for the comp, if you do we will ensure we make you welcome and show you guys a great time.

Bidding you big swell and offshore winds OG

Phill

Cheers OG, at this stage I will be coming for the comp for sure Would love to get solid, glassy 13th on the 8 6" surfshapes, reckon I will get the little beast shacked at a place like the beacon or something The old nanna naps hey, I see im not the only who drifts off sitting up on the couch, late arvo after 2 surfs, nothing better though than your body being tired from being in the waves for 5 hrs Looking forward to having a surf with you soon.

Brooko,

I will hook you up with Matty " AKA the Grey Guru" He takes his 9'3 Naish and 9'0 custom to Beacon all the time. He also regularly surfs Beacon and Ant Bommies on big days. Some of the waves i have seen him catch on an SUP just blow my mind. Bigger balls than 3 bull elephants.

Matty and Dave Boyd (Imperial Surfboards) like to push the envelope a bit and they are great guys that are always generous with their knowledge and time.
They have sorted out the learning curve for me many times and help me to push the limits within relatively safe boundaries(Safe for them sometimes scares the **** out of me).

You should chat to Dave about designs, he made an excellent HP SUP for my daughter Kristi. She got some great waves on her SUP yeterday and causes the boys in the line up wiplash as she cruises past (easy on the eye in the pink Roxy 1mm). Thank god she dosent look like me or she would have had to take up a life of crime laughs.

My middle daughter Nesha has also started SUP a couple of weeks ago and now the two of them will have a competative grind happening.

Kristi has already told me that the 10'6 is going to be her big wave board!!!!!!!

Maybe I need to keep the Laird?

If you have any other guys down your way let them know about the comp its aimed to be a whole lotta fun with some pretty chill guys. Plan to spend the weekend and we will find some fun waves somewhere for sure.

Hey Phill, would be keen to surf with anyone up that way for sure and there sure is nothing better than a hot girl cruising around ripping it up, makes It all the more pleasant out In the lineup, sometimes I reckon having girls out in the lineup makes all the agro chill a bit, Its a great thing.
My wife Kylie Is going great on the subs In the surf, she claimed the 9 6" naish now she has ridden the new 8 6" , shes claiming It and telling me the Naish is mine again.

I dont really know If anyone else down this way will be up for a surf comp on a sub, I do know Robdog and I are keen though.

I plan on staying In Torquay that weekend at some friends place, so will be keen to get out In the soup anywhere thats going off

Great to catch up and have a sup surf Phill. Stoked you liked the 10'6" Wide AA. I enjoyed riding the 11 footer, another good board from PSH. All the best for some waves this week. Robdog
