Howdy. Does anyone know whether the rough rail tape affects the speed & performance of a board? Is smooth tape better?
cheers B

I don't think you could notice the difference.

Dj thanks, I didn't think it would be that critical that I would notice. Towney, taping the paddles are next on the list, just have to wait for a rainy day....hmm tomorrow might do. And Griz...hahahahahaha "Quilton loves ya bum" B..;)

I use electrical tape on my surf sup paddle but dont bother using any on my race board paddle.

Just follow DJ's advice, save your money and use electrical tape.

From www.RailSaverPro.com
On their website they say of their rail saver tape
"Our rail saver are made from a semi-rigid 380 mi PVC, with a lenticular pattern surface that is highly resistant to impact and abrasion. It has a good ability to adapt to simple curves and allows repositioning, thus facilitating placement.
The lenticular pattern allows to reduce thickness to the minimum without affecting impact resistance, and this reduced thickness together with a rough surface allows for unnoticeable drag."

I have used this product and I doubt it would affect your boardspeed at all, given the small amount of area it affects of the total board area. What I can attest to is this is a good product to save the rails of any board. I have tried taping my paddle edges and hate the effect it has on them so prefer to protect the rails of my boards rather.
