Good evening all,

I am a member of the Southern Ocean Union Of Longborders Club "SOUL" based in Ocean Grove Victoria. I have been pushing for a SUP Division for some time.

The club currently has in excess of 100 members and on most comp days we run until 5 - 6pm. The commitee did not want to run the SUP comp on the same day as the longboards due to time constraints.

However the commitee has agreed to run an SUP Comp on a seperate day and will supply all of the SOUL infra structure including Tents, PA, Judges, etc etc as they want to see the sport grow.

The location for the event or events would be Ocean Grove Main Beach or various locations along 13th beach dependant on condition on the day. If the weather blows things out then the plan b is to run sprint paddles etc on the barwon river

The basic outline would be to run the following:

1) Longboard SUP Division boards over 10'6"

2) Shortboard SUP Division boards shorter than 10'6"

3) Expression Session those that dont want to compete but want to get out there and bust a few moves

4) White Water Warriors, a session where people can turn up that flat water paddle or want some tips on how to improve their SUPing in the surf.

The Events will probably run on Sundays.

At this point we are looking for expressions of interest so we can move forward.

Best regards

Phill.

Custom 8'9 x 26 x 3 1/8

Dont forget its a family day so bring the kids we have custom cut paddles they can use!

Will also be doing some basic training on the Barwon River

Having a race would be cool.

It wouldnt have to be long, just a coupla km. Make it a cruise like the cerebrus one.

Hey Lobes,

Easy to do, we have the Barwon River less than 500m from Main Beach and I sprint paddle from little noosa to the bridge and back most nights about 2.5ks. We were thinking about a race from the Golf Club to the Barwon Bridge and back, so that wouldnt be an issue.

Find some mates to race against and consider it done and dusted!!

Myself and a couple mates would be keen for surf and maybe a distance thing. Would you need to be a member of Surfing Vic or SOUL?

Keep us posted on any updates.

...Also just noticed that Surfing Vic only offers "Personal Accident Insurance" meaning you are covered for damage done to yourself but no public liability, so if you run into someone or your board hit a kid and the worst happens you could be personally sued!

eg, if you loose an eye yourself you get 75k, if someone else looses an eye as a result of your actions you're in trouble.

EDIT: I looked into it further and Surfing Vic does offer public liability through Surfing Australia

Hmmmmm very interesting,

Most if not all Board Clubs and Events in Vicco use the Surf Vic Insurance.

I would also assume that anyone could take up a civil case as well if they thought they had grounds to do so!

In the event of a designated competition I beleive that the risk of dinging someone would be some what reduced due to management to the contest area.

I will take your comments up with Soul and Surfing Vic and see what they have to say.

I just read the insurance info sent to me when i entered the Vic Titles and I believe your point is valid.

Regards

Phill

Phill,

Check out my post on "SUPSA is back". Hopefully you will be able to use what we have already set up to run your contest. More on this later...
