As part of the 12th Annual Whalebone Classic 2009 there will be a SUP race sponsored by Starboard.
The Whalebone this year will take place on July 11th and 12th.
Entry forms are now out. They can be downloaded from http://www.whaleboneclassic.com.au
The race will likely be starting from Sandtracks (Freo) finishing at the contest site at Iso's (Cott). The course may be changed depending on the weather, but the race will go ahead. There will be $750 prizemoney to be split amongst the place getters.

Registration and breifing will be held at the Cottesloe Beach Hotel on Friday the 10th of July from 6pm to 8pm. Surfing starts 7am Saturday. It will be decided on the Friday night what day and time the race will be run to give us the best chance of having great conditions.

Does anyone want to join me for training runs. I was thinking of 2 or 3 times a week going for some practice and excersize before work. Lately I have been doing 2 hour distance paddles with Big Stu generally before work from 7.30am. Going from Lucky bay melville up or down river depending on wind direction.
I realize not everyone can do these times, and many want to be on the coast. It is too far for me to go to the coast most mornings so if anyone else is interested in being motivated then PM me.
I have also been trying to gauge interest in a swan river downwinder -catering more as a social paddle for new converts and not competitve in nature - as a means of building a group activity to share the stoke. Again Pm me if interested.
I for one will support Peter Dunns effort and sign up for the Whalebone Classic for the fun of it.
Hey Shiner, anything to handicap those 250lb gorillas eh! Sounds OK to me (200lb).
Anyway Paul, count me in for a training run paddle or three. I'll be interested to see how far I can go.
Work completely crunched any chance I had of getting out yesterday until after dark. But with the moon up, it was great out on the river - which was like a mirror. So maybe an after dinner training paddle might be a possibility too?
Probably just my 11'2. Im not intending on breaking any records. Just keen to get amongst it and have some fun. I might try getting my hands on a 12'6? Anyone else going in the race? Hawk? Hilly?
Well both myself and my dad have sent of our money for the race. But we are yet to recieve a conformation letter or the such. Has anyone who has entered early recieced such an invite???? I am abit to a loss as to what happens after your send the cheque!!
Just had a chat to Dunny, and it appears there has been a bit of confusion.
If you are planning on entering the race you will need to send in your entry form as soon as possible, as it may not be possible to enter on the Friday at the pub. The registration on Friday is just to recieve your T-Shirts and other goodies, catch up with the crew and find out when the race will be held.
Slida - I wouldn't worry to much, I am pretty sure Pete would have your entry and all you need to do is come register on the Friday Night. If you want to double check you can give him a call on 9284 7873.
