Hello,

I'm just about to get into SUP and was after some advice, I'm looking at the Starboard 9'0 Stinger. I weigh about 71kg and have surfed all my life, I windsurf too so I'm not looking for something I'll get bored of to quick but still need to learn the art. Do you think the stinger would be a good board? I'm going to see what I can go demo as well.

Demo, Demo and Demo.

I thought the same thing about length etc, but after demoing a lot of boards went for the Naish 11'4"

It was clear from getting on some shorter ones that the 11'4" was going to give me the most enjoyment straight away. Now I am not saying that the outcome will be the same for you and you may well end up on something shorter, but do get on a few boards before making your decision.

At 71kg, and if your only interested in riding waves, i recommend you go the 8'5" pocket rocket.

The pocket rocket looks good I'm keen to try it, might see if I can get a demo on it but not sure if any of the shops around here would have one.

If you are in WA, auswind are having a demo (see previous post). If you are in Sydney, contact Sam at "wind surf and snow". Not sure about Melb or QLD?

Yep - you might want to consider something bigger to start with until your sea legs kick in, but at your weight and experience, I think that board would be a goer as long as you are prepared to go through some tough times to begin with.

I'm in SA Scotty. Thanks Oliver so that board might be a bit tricky to balance on for starters hey. I'll ask one of the shops if they have something similar that I can demo, I've never stood on a stand up paddle board before so it'd be nice to get a feel for it before I go buying anything.

Thanks guys.

Spearsy,
I have an 8'6" x 30.5 custom for sale. It is slightly bigger than the pocket rocket. Ring me on 0407 715 828 if you are interested.

If you have a good surfing or windsurfing background I wouldnt go to big, I bought the 11,4 naish nice board but pretty much out grew it in 1 week I would go 9,6 and down IMO ..
