I’m looking for advice on replacing one of my SUPs. I’m 6’0” (183cm), 185lb (84kg) and 68yo, so stability is becoming increasingly important. I’m a fit intermediate rider who SUP surfs ankle biters to shoulder high waves on Maui’s south side. My two-board quiver includes a Jimmy Lewis Kwad (9'7" × 31" × 4.5", 154 L), which I want to replace, and a Starboard Spice (8'8" × 32" × 4.7", 140 L). The Kwad has been excellent for catching small waves and staying stable in less-than-ideal conditions, but I’ve had it for many years and am ready to upgrade. I want a board that catches small waves and offers Kwad-like stability with somewhat higher performance. The Spice is my go-to board in good conditions, but I find it less stable in chop and wind. I’d appreciate some model or specs advice.

Sounds like you know exactly what you want so given where u live, go custom. So many good choices, I’d go see Keith Taboul and you’ll have an amazing durable sandwich board not patchy quality from Cobra.

I was going to say the same as Mark.

Life is too short, especially at our ages, to not go custom :-)

Hi VooPoo

The Sunova Ghost was designed for the exact requirements you mentioned.
I suggest the 9'1 x 32.5 at 150 L
Stable as... but very easy to snap around
Here is my video that shows me on the 9'1 and the 9'6 and has a very in depth discussion about the design
I was 230 (105 kg) at the time
Now 78 and 195 lbs (88 kg) at 5'9" and my go to is the Ghost 8'8 x 31 at 130 L

Hi Voo, looking at the Kwad it looks like a longboard cross over SUP. So if you are looking for a board for catching knee high to head high in a long board style I cannot recommend the Sunova Casey Revo highly enough.

I have the 10x30 at 139lt and its the one Sup I will never sell, the wider nose gives it all the stability you will ever need, but the pulled in rounded pin tail will let you carve turns or hold on when the wave are well overhead.

Owning the Spice it would make for a great two board quiver, I ride mine way too much I love my smaller Sup's but the Revolution has something special.

Size wise I am around 6'3 and 216 pounds.

If you don't want a longboard Sup Creeks Ghost looks great.

Cheers.

Steve.

8’11″x30″x4″ (130L) Jimmy Lewis Striker is a ridiculously stable and super fun small/medium wave magnet. It and your Spice would be a great two board quiver. Email Jimmy and see what he's got available.

I can also highly recommend the Sunova Casey Revo. I have the 9'0 x 28 (I am around 75kgs). An incredibly fun board for lots of conditions.
