Interesting article on Supaa and Supracer.com. What I don't get is, if an event doesn't pay, why do elite paddlers who haven't been paid keep supporting them each year??

Paddler's definitely race for the love of it, not to get rich, however if prize money is offered then you'd expect it to be paid out on time and in full. Unfortunately that hasn't always happened at some of the big races in the past 12 months. Most events do an awesome job, but there are too many that don't. The SUP Athletes Association just posted an interesting look at the problem, though instead of just banging on drums they actually offer a logical (and I think very reasonable) solution, one which might just help SUP racing become a better sport. Yep, heard a lot about this - not good for the sport.... bad karma.
The King of the Cut had a $2000 prize purse last year and we hope to increase that to over $3000+ this year to attract international paddlers. Winners get the money on the day - couldn't imagine any other way of doing this.
Respect the athletes and they will respect the event.

King of the Cut 2013 had $4500 total prize money and some other competitor incentives all paid on time and with great pleasure, devastating to think competitors arn't getting their promised rewards.
