Hi Guys,

I'm looking to head down to Phillip Island on Sunday for some SUPping and Kiting.

Can anybody tell me the good SUP spots to check out for somebody that hasn't spent much time in the surf..so a spot that's not crowded but gets some good waves?

Thanks

The Island, try Cat Bay. Follow the signs to the Penguins !! The little hamlet is Summerlands. I've always thought that was a cool name. On the south side is a sucky little ledge wave that is a no go for learner in the waves. But try the beach off to the north and that bay, is Cat Bay. There's some nice long mellow waves there, except Sunday is going to be a little windy and on-shore. Maybe kite action there instead.

Better bet on Sunday would be Point Roadknight, for learner SUP waves.

Forecast is even better for Saturday & Monday. Low tide is around late morning.

Put it this way - that telephoto lens I had that was hired... I bought it. Or at least I have ordered one and it's traveling to me, but won't arrive until early next week unfortunately. Next time I hit PRK, I want to get out in the water with the video camera. The GoPro HD I had on Lummers' board produced some nice shots but as you said, it really needs another angle to provide perspective.

Hi Rea
Thats my home Island and the wind might be a bit strong for the island on sunday. Looks like plenty of swell though. The other coast might be the go as it will be offshore. I might get shot for saying Cat bay is the BIZ so I won't We have had some awesome paddles around the island in the last few days with no wind. Pure heaven.
Cheers Scott

Hi Rea,
unfortunately, there's not all that much choice for intermediate kite spots around the island, despite there being coastline that faces every aspect.

As with Waterhorse, Cat Bay is supreme and will offer some protection from the wind on Sunday's S/Wester.

If you're super keen for a kite, keep heading towards Inverloch and there you'll find all the space you need. It's only 30 - 40 mins from the Island.

Ooooh I love that little ledge and it's Left friend 'round the corner. The right reminds me of Shipwrecks the way it bends on itself.

Hey Rea, are you locked in to Phillip Island?

Yeah like said earlier I would try head to the west coast on either day.
There will be good waves in the morning and good kiting in the arvo.

I hope you have fun wherever you end up.

The reason for going to Phillip Island is for kite action in the afternoon at Inverloch. I just bought some new gear and need to follow the wind before I'm locked into Melbourne's balmy winter so to SUP the morning and kite in the afternoon is the plan.

Will possibly try Cat Bay so thanks for the heads up guys. It will be great to check out a new SUP location.

If anybody else is keen to come down let me know.

Damn, the weather looks glorious for Roadknight today. Just couldn't make it there and back in time for a dinner commitment. Hopefully tomorrow is equally good. Let me know what the plan is and I'll charge the camera batteries.

It's a great part of the world you live in Dean. It was a fun spot to spend a beautiful Melbourne morning in.

Next time I'll bring my Glide and won't park in that place where you get $117 fines.

Rea, Dean is talking about Point Roadknight (PRK) which is 5 mins the other side of Anglesea.

After missing today's sunshine, I am happy to go wherever tomorrow. What's the plan?
