Hello,

Mightn't be the right forum to post this kinda thing in, but I'm looking at buying my first car and it's turning out to be a pretty tough challenge to even get started. So, to cut short; say if I was to get a 12'2" Starboard and buy a hatchback (lets just say a Toyota Corolla hatchback), would there be a safety problem in transporting it to the beach (i.e. the car be dragged by wind resistance of the board)? My longboard can easily be taken on short trips to the beach (haven't tried long hauls yet), so I don't know if I should be worried or not about a SUP board. I posted this here coz I'm assuming many of you are knowledgeable about that kind of thing.

Thanks

nah dude you will be sweet, i have a civic and it handles it fine.

biggest problem you will have is if u get a starboard 12'2" they arent that great. more of a flat water board. Get an 11'2 or 12'6 they are heaps better.

It's funny you should ask this question because I'm just about to trade my old 4X4 Nissan for a small hatch...yes a Noddy car....Something that gets about four times the fuel economy of my old bomb.

My concern was that a big 11'6" SUP board would look ridiculous on such a little car and stick out about three feet at each end.

So yesterday on my way down to the beach I stopped off at the dealer and asked if I could put my board on the roof to see what it looked like...It was ok.

These little cars can't take much load on the roof but the minimum is about 40kg..So carrying a couple of SUP boards shouldn't be a problem.

Here's a pic...I'm tossing up between the Swift and the SX4 (shown here)...and the Swift is next to it.

I'm leaning towards the Swift because I can move the roof racks further apart than on the SX4...and it also cheaper..

wow, I'm actually really surprised that it doesn't seem to stick out a bit more than that. I'm probably actually going to go for a Mazda3, due to this (when I have the money, of course):

I'm relieved that it doesn't stick out too badly on top of a hatchback.

Cheers for the pic, DJ
