Stand Up Paddle Boards – Boat or Board?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was the question that the NSW Maritime recently reviewed. It had been decided by NSW Maritime that SUP boards were classified as “vessels”.

SUP schools would need to obtain a “hire and drive” licence and be subject to audits and fees per vessel. Other requirements included: displaying a number and capacity plate on vessels, (i.e. how many people can be on board the vessel), fitted with hand holds so clients can cling to in case of capsize, the wearing of personal floatation devices at all times.

ASI had discussions with NSW Maritime Authority, and we are please to advise they have now determined that SUP’s are not vessels. No licence is required from NSW Maritime Authority.

Any SUP events that affect navigation will require a NSW Maritime permit for that event.

Crazy guys lol,
Robbo

Thank God common sense prevailed. It could have so easily gone the other way.

Haha too funny hand rails on a SUP board.

What would have been next a skipper's licence!

Clowns havnt seen to many people surf a boat the way the dogfellow was in his latest video, I would say to the average person it looks dog is tearing it to bits on a surfboard not a boat, after all I thought you sat in a boat not stood.

You're right Robbo - its really flat at the moment.
There were some whales jumping around just off the gaol point this morning but even they couldn't make any waves.

Flat water paddling may be good exercise Robbo, but I'm sure looking forward to some waves to test the new board.
