No club YET. There are talkings and rumours that something like the Mandurah Ocean club could be up and running in the not too distant future.

I"ve heard talkings about the possiblity of sup being included with local outrigging clubs and becoming more ocean paddling clubs like the Mandurah one. Just ideas and talks at this stage but will let you know if anything comes of it.

Not in Mandurah, like Mandurah. As Adam said tying in with the local out rigger clubs and utilizing their infrastructure and race hosting experience. At the moment there are three organizations you can align with; surfing Australia, SUPA and Aocra. There are others out there more involved than I and from my understanding they are looking into what the pros and cons are of each.

I am still a very raw newbie to the sport. Don't have the stamina (or balance) yet to do much distance (even if down wind ), but it would be great to learn more about the WA SUP scene and the peeps involved, hence my question about if there is a club. Since trying it, I can't fathom why everybody in Perth isn't doing it - the conditions here are amazing and it is so much fun!

theres a SUP and kite store in Scarbs on the West coast hwy, they seem to have a healthy club type gathering, organising meets two or three times a week for training and full moon paddles. My mates girl paddles with them a bit and loves it.
Made new friends etc

I havnt heard about the crew on Scarb beach road but im sure they would also run a similar program

Hey Stitch, there's definite 'movement at the station' with the whole local SUP club thing in the Perth Metro area. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a Freo based club, and one in the Northern beaches before too long. Drop in to your local SUP shop for a chat, they should have all the latest goss in your area. And if you do a bit of downwinding, try the Port to Swanny on Sundays - not quite a club, but great fun, and you can meet a heap of like minded paddlers.

Nope - I have only been doing it for just over a week! So far only been out on the river and the marina.

Darren who owns AKS/Stand Up Paddle Perth runs serious training sessions 5:30am at Tranby House every Tuesday and Thursday. These go for about an hour and a half and are then usually followed by a begginers session. Also on Saturday he runs a 10km time trial at Tranby, again at 5:30 for the serious and 7 for newer paddlers. The beauty of this is it is 5km up and 5km back so you can paddle as far as you want and then turn back and you only have to compete against yourself and try to improve your own time.

As Lach says drop in and have a chat to either Darren or Todd and they will fill you in with all the latest.

I have the information on what the process is to form a club or association. Which is pretty easy to obtain via the internet. Basically it takes about 10 people to form a core group and meet regularly to undertake the tasks involved and elect office bearers etc. I agree that there is probably enough interest to have a North and Freo/Cott club. It requires a few motivated people to get the ball rolling and others to make a contribution to make these things happen. I'm happy to be involved and I agree with Loch that the downwinder group is a good start to get people together and start talking about developing the idea.

Hi Torch and others,

As Cam says, we have regular fitness and technique sessions for advanced, intermediate and beginner paddlers. Call us for more details.

We are also putting together a weekly SUP Ergo tournament with technique analysis via instant video feedback.

Cheers,

Hi guys
Yes there is a process underway and we should have a metropolitan SUP club(s) hopefully up and running by the end of next month. Information will come as details are confirmed.

In the mean time talk with your local SUP shop, check out Darrens set up, join us for Swanie downwinders or join in with kevin and myself for weekly training sessions at swan yacht east Freo....all welcome.
