Kona board hire a block and half back from beach behind the Hyatt. You can hire direct on the beach but price start a $20 p/h. Kona is less than that for the day.The sups are massive so are the mals , I just hired a 11ft mal and stand up paddled around on that ,take your paddle hire paddles are crap.

Surftech shop in Ala Moana. It is nearish the shopping centre, but you really need a car to get the boards.

KONA surf shop is the way to go. I was their last week. Great staff, lots of boards and so much cheaper than everyone else. Cant go wrong. Added bonus, is a mexican restaurant upstairs of shop. The store was a block back from the beach, up towards the Duke statue.

I just spent a few months in Waikiki and did all the research on this exact topic.
The best bet for a long term rental ie for the whole 4 weeks is Blue Planet http://getupstanduphawaii.com/Board_Rentals__storage.html
You pay a $99 membership fee then it is $149 a month for a new SUP plus paddle.
They have a good range of boards including a lot of brand new Starboard boards. You can book your board before you go, so the one you want is ready when you arrive, plus you can swap and try different boards for no extra charge, which i really liked. My wife and I got to try a lot of different new model starboards and was stoked with the service. The shop is near Ala Moana shopping centre so u need to get there and back to your accomodation with the SUP, so maybe need a rental car or van for that day.
The Kona shop the other guys are talking about is great for short term rentals and much cheaper than off the beach, but from it was mainly for long boards from what I saw but could be wrong.

The longer you hire the board from Kona the cheaper it gets down to 10 bucks a day plus you can change boards every day at no extra charge. plus there are really cheap if you damage a board , my daughter got a 4 inch fin chop in her board , I took it back swapped it over for another board and they only charged 30 bucks for the repair , pretty good in my books. They carry the full range of top end Surftech range.

I forgot Hawaii Surfboard Rentals do SUP. Service is great boards are in good nick and they deliver to your door.

I think most of the posts mean Koa Board Sports on Koa Ave behind the Hyatt, not Kona. I wasn't really paying attention either, but I didn't notice ay SUPs at Koa Board Sports.

Moku on Koa Ave is the one with the Mexican restaurant upstairs. I didn't check this one. It was reviewed here: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Hawaii-visit-board-hire/

There is a guy who hires SUPs in the same complex as Koa Board Sports - Big Wave Dave www.bigwavedavesurfco.com. One of his SUPs looked like a pretty reasonable surf SUP.

I couldn't find a convenient enough SUP rental in Waikiki and didn't have a car that week so didn't bother grabbing one from Ala Moana. Mostly surfed and just paid rip off prices for OK-crummy condition NSP SUPs from Rentals on the beach when I felt like a SUP. I thought the NSPs were fun.

I do not know where the Blue Planet shop in Ala Moana is, but you could (if very, very keen) walk a SUP from the Surftech shop to the beach at Ala Moana and paddle it around to Waikiki. It is a couple of blocks to walk and a fair bit of a paddle (with a pile of surf breaks) - but was just too much effort for me.

For North Shore there is Surf and Sea at Haleiwa who have a great range of SUPs. It would be a good day trip if you are only staying in the Waikiki area. I was surfing here but it looked like a really good place to SUP in small and large surf and on the flats in the bay.
