Heading to Port Fairy at Easter with no experience of the area, anyone recommend any spots for a small wave? Forecast looks big and onshore, hoping there might be a point or protected spot somewhere

Luckyp - Pt Fairy has some good spots right in the town. There's plenty of room on East Beach if you like to have fun in some good beachies with the family. Friday morning & Sunday look ok for most locations although the onshore wind on Saturday might prove to be a good time to sit back in the local or spend time on dry land with the family. From the mouth of the river around to South beach is a bit more serious and although I'm not overly familiar with that area, if you're competent then you shouldn't end up on the rocks.

I can understand LateStarter's comments - however Pt Fairy is a small town that relies heavily on tourism (no industry) and a prime holiday spot for Viccos that booms over Summer up until Easter, when it starts to settle-down a bit. I think you'll find that all the locals will be expecting the tourists...and happy to let them have a few waves over the weekend as it's a big boost to the economy. Once Winter starts to approach, the swell gets better and the tourists start to thin out, or get thinned out!

Just a note though - if you head any further West of Pt Fairy though...don't expect any niceties as the locals aren't as obliging. I'm just giving you a heads-up as I'm sure you know what to expect!

I'm sure you're probably a great guy, but asking strangers on an internet forum to openly disclose spots best suited to certain conditions so you can rock up with your SUP is not really cool.

Get a map, read the weather forecast, respect the locals, do some exploring and see what you find. Also if you find something good, keep it to yourself and remember for your next visit!

There are so many seaside towns in Oz where locals bust their arses just to afford being able to live near good surf, then as soon as a long weekend and a break from work comes around, they are greeted with lineups jam packed with kooks and blow-ins, documenting lost secrets with their gopros and smart phones.

I'm not having a whinge, just offering a view from the other side of the fence. Have a great Easter.

OMG, I can't believe the selfishness that is being displayed by the likes of late starter, are you kidding mate, with such a vast coastline you can't share a wave for a few days? Luckyp you're incredibly tolerant and polite, hope you have the best conditions and fantastic time making memories with your family.

^^^ I'm not sure why the red thumbs in your reply as you are right that some spots should be earned. I'm local to the area the OP was asking about and happy to share some fun local (public) locations and hopefully share the stoke with him and his kids.

Getting me to spill on the 'not-so-well-known' local spots will require more than just a friendly request. Some spots aren't even shared between best friends!
