After falling a little off the pace recently wrt SUPSA we have picked things up and are moving again.

SUPSA = Stand Up Paddle Surfers Australia

Guy Walker called a meeting a few weeks back on the Gold Coast Coast and those that turned up decided to kick start SUPSA back up again.

We voted in a new committee:

Ross Munro is President
Mike Manning is Vice President
Chris McCall is Secretary
Troy Pease is Treasure
Phil Gregory is Events Organiser

This committe had a meeting last night and we are now puttng some plans into action to get things rolling. We need to get a few things in order first but soon we will be able to put into place some of the ideas that we have.

Hopefully we can establish chapters all round the country. We are busy getting the paperwork done but we intend to be a national organisation, affiliated to Surfing Queensland (insurance etc).

It will be great to get everyone on board so that we can represent all aspects of SUPing (surfing contests, racing, social paddling, charity fund raisers etc).

Please send in your thoughts/ideas so that we get a better idea on what everyone wants from SUPSA.

Casso, Australian Championships 2009....now there's a thought!

It might be a bit ambitious for 2009 but let's see what kind of interest there is out there for this idea. It might be worth having a crack at it.

Send in your other ideas, SUPers, as we want SUPSA to be about where you want things to go...

Hey Phil,

I am sure that it will not take us too long to get all of our paperwork sorted out. We have to renew our affiliation to Surfing Queensland and also our Insurance policy.

As your contest is to be held in a few months time we should be able to get things together.

We should have a seperate SUPSA forum set up soon, which the seabreeze guys have offered to set up for us. This is where you will be able to check out all of the SUPSA related news. We will also be setting up a web site.

Once we get everything in place we will need support from all of you. So, get your application forms to join up and get involved.

Hey mikeman, surfing south australia are keen to have a affiliation with a sup group & have offered there full support to progress every form of suping in SA. seeing standup is pretty much a fledgling sport in SA not sure about numbers & how many people would be interested? the only form of contact with others is this forum or the few you see in the water.looking at going forward spoke to matty from gsi he is keen for a demo day later in the year with he new range of boards, would also have PSH & oxbow and whatever other labels would be keen, and or attaching the day to comp etc! cheer's mags

SUPSA stands for Stand Up Paddle Surfers Australia Inc

It was started by a group of us on the Gold Coast in 2007. The main guys driving things in the beginning were Kelly Margetts and Tai Graham. We had a meeting and elected a committee and Guy Walker became the first President.

SUPSA was incorporated on 14th Dec 2007 but it did not really take off all that well.

We had another get together around a month ago and decided to try get it going again. A new committe was formed and we have been working since then to get everything tidied up. A lot has happened this week and we are almost set to getting all of the documentation and admin sorted out.

Once all of this is finally sorted we will be making application forms available for all of you to sign up. Hopefully you will all support SUPSA. Watch this space for more...

Hi Guys and Gals,

At a meeting this morning it was decided that SUPSA will first and foremost concentrate all it's efforts into it's Gold Coast based members. As resources and time are a valuable commodity, the committe felt that we could not do justice to running anything but a local club at this stage. For those that have expressed interest from locations other than the Gold Coast, we encourgae you to start your own clubs and if we can assist by sharing our experiences and plans how how to get going, please feel free to contact us on [email protected]
We look forward to seeing other clubs pop up, perhaps we can get some inter club comps going, Gold Coast up against Sunshine Coast vying for the Qld Cup??????

Secondly, in a very real public forum, the committe would like to thank all those founding members of SUPSA for getting the club going in the first place, we hope we can emulate the efforts you guys put in and take it forward as you visioned.

Memebrship
Membership is now open, please email us on [email protected] and we will send back the application form. For previous members, we will email you shortly with your application for renewal. We have kept costs as they were last year with the exception of family memebership which we have reduced to $100!!! Bargain!!! We also have kept the practice of supplying all adult members with a club t-shirt, although for the kids we may have to look at something like a SUPSA Sun Smart Hat due to sizing issues with the little ones.

Program for this year
The calender of events will be out shortly. Our first event is set down for Sunday the 19th of April 2009. That's the Sunday before the kids head back to school after school holidays. The format is a Open Day / Membership Drive where we are inviting ALL industry folk to come along and display their wares, whether it be boards, paddles, SUP Schools etc, everyone is welcome to participate. We have compiled a listing and will email details shortly to the industry folk but please feel free to contact us directly on [email protected] if you want to participate. The day will start at qaround 8.00am and wrap up around lunchtime with a BBQ sponsored by SUPSA.

The overall aim of SUPSA is to provide a vehicle for all people interested in Stand Up Paddling to get together and spend a morning together and have FUN. SUPSA is for Stand Up Paddle Surfers, Flat Water Paddlers, Distance Paddlers and everyone in between. It can be your club, all you need to do is support it.

Any queries, please send email to [email protected]

Thanks

Chris
