Those keen on SUP racing should check out this new site.. www.supracer.com/top-11-of-2011/

It's good to see so many Aussies in the top ten with guys like Jacko just missing out.

Okay it takes some sort of effort to make a list like this so kudos to the guy for doing it, but...

Who does a Top 11? If he didn't have the kahunas to drop someone out and make it a Top 10, why didn't he go 15 or 20?

And I think there are one or two sacred cows in there, which is perhaps why we don't see Jacko and one or two other Aussies on the list.

I'd also rate Bart de Zwart's effort at the 11 Cities as noteworthy enough to place him at the pointy end.

At the end of it all, I can't really work out whether his main criteria is race results or fastest paddler. I know he says it's race results, but that being the case, some of the people listed surely didn't enter enough of the key races to achieve the ranking they've been given. If you enter one race and win it, does that make you better than the other guy who wins 9 races and comes second in the other race?

Oh well, it's just someone's opinion and it's a topic for conversation.

Or maybe a Spinal Tap reference?

Let's see if they do Top 12 of 2012

I agree.. Top 11 for the year 2011.

I'd like to see Connor on top above Danny considering his year he's had.

Here's hoping we see JM on top after 2012..

This is a very new site and they're still working on all the facts and figures.

Great job with it I think.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback!

This list is just for a bit of fun, but hopefully some people find it
entertaining.

It's almost impossible ranking anyone in a sport that has so
many different divisions and race types, but it was interesting just
to look back at the performances from this year.

Paddlers didn't necessarily have to go in every big race to make
it either (in fact Connor was about the only guy who showed up
at every event).

It was mainly the performances in the big races that counted.
And if they went in at least 3x major races, then I felt that was
enough to get an indication of how they compared.

As for sacred cows, I'm guessing you mean Dave Kalama?
He was a tough choice, but there were a couple of standout
performances that got him over the line.

I actually tried my best to exclude him not the list, because
I didn't people to say "oh he's on there coz he's Dave Kalama". But
if you look at the results, he definitely earned his position.

Loads of guys could be on there. Just to name a few... Jacko, Jake,
Beau, Andy from Aus. Bart de Zwart, Livio Menalau, Kai Bartlett and
a heap of the Hawaiian downwinder guys. Anthony Vela, Matt Becker
and Rob Rojas from California were unlucky as well.

Would've been way easier just to make a Top 30 and not have
to exclude any of the elite int'l paddlers. But where's the challenge in
that... And it'd be boring if we all agreed all the time ;-)

Thanks for checking it out anyway!

- Chris

absolutly dirty I wasnt in theirGoing for top 12 - 2012.Better put this beer down and do some pushupsSecond thought pushups suck.

I like the idea , some one has to be ranked no 1 , i would have thought Connor not Ching though.

lol yeah, I'll do a specialty list next year - Top 12 SUP Forum Posters of 2012 ;-)

A fair few of the people I asked to look over the draft list said Connor #1.
He won just about every race he went in (and he went in a LOT of races...).
But if it came down to all races combined, it'd just reward the guys who can
afford to travel to every event.

It was super close between the entire top four guys, and even closer between
the top two. In the end I gave it to Danny because he beat Connor 4 out of 5
times, and that's about the only difference I could find.

Still pretty rough seeing the kid won one of the BoP races, plus the Molokai in
record time. But that's just the way I saw it.

It'd be awesome if Dave Kalama went in the BoP and Danny Ching entered
Molokai in 2012, and everyone got to race against everyone else in every
condition.

But for a lot of different reasons most guys stick to a few big events each year,
so I had to do my best to compare all the elite paddlers between the different
races, classes and divisions.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see where it ends up!

Especially now with the ISA taking it more seriously. And we've already got the WPA (World Paddle Association) as well as the new SUP World Series. Plus there's the Hennessey's World Championships and the Molokai2Oahu World Championships.

Fun times!

What about last Sunday's race from Freshwater to Palmy on the northern beaches??
Our own Sam Parker killing it against a pretty hot field in horrible conditions.
Im new to the sport but by the looks of the racing scene in Oz Id say we are doing OK
