Hi,

Was wondering if you could put me on the right track. I want to buy a SUP with a mast base hole so I can use a small wave sails when it's puffing....

Can you please advise which brands/models have mast base attachments and also what size do you recommend for someone 100kg and also 90kg

Plan on using it for flat water paddle workouts and in small surf to waist high.

Thanks in advance,
EB

Check out the JP range. Great SUP's and fun to bimble on when its 8-12 knots quandary there's some swell.

The Fanatic Allwaves have a mast base insert

see

for your size and purposes the 9'6 , (the 9'10 would be a slightly better cruiser but maybe a tad big for you in surf ?)

IIRC so do their "allrounds" and Some of the starboard allrounds (in AST silver construction) also have a mast base insert.

Buddha,
Your pretty safe with any of the windsurfing companies.
Naish have M8 inserts in the larger Nalu GT boards, which are perfect for lightwind wavesailing and cruising.
Fanatic have them in almost everything, *board the same and JP also have them in most boards I believe.
My only advice is to go longer rather than shorter, from memory you have a couple of windsurf boards for when it gets to proper windsurf conditions so this is just to fill in the sub planing, small wave conditions so pick a board that will excel in that, I would really strongly recommend the Nalu 10'6.5" GT (but then we also distribute Naish).

You can get the starboard whopper with mast insert and that would have no problem accommodating a 90 or 100kg person.

The new NSP Elements 10'6 has a M8 insert also. Be in store in December.

The Starboard Wide Points in the silver AST finish all have inserts for sailing. I used to throw a sail onto mine (it even has footstrap inserts) and it was fun to sail. I still prefer straight SUP myself and have now discovered downwinding so I sold all my remaining sailing gear.

Hi Ellobuddha,

The Fanatic Fly HRS range would be ideal for someone looking for mostly SUP but some windsurfing as well. For a little more performance on a wave, the 10'6" Fly Wood edition would be really fun.

A Fly HRS 11' would be perfect. The Allwave in 9'6" as someone else also suggested. The HRS construction is as tough as old boots. We're on our second season of the Fly HRS in our school and even with the noobies bonking the rails with their paddles all day like a chorus of bongo drums, they still have yet to crack, chip or even ding. We were going to replace them after a year, but have no need to. Very impressed!

Thanks for all the info guys.

As someone posted - yep I have plenty of sailboard gear and kite as well. love to kite in waves and sail flatwater.

Realistically I am looking for 60% flatwater workout 30% small crappy waves and 10% up to 12knots with a wave sail.

If that makes the brief easier please comment.

Time for some further research...

Thanks again guys. Much appreciated.

apparently throwing a kite on a SUP is also a pretty cool experience or so I have been told. SUP with a sail is really good fun is light to moderate wind I think.
