Thinking about heading up to Seal Rocks for a bit this week. Anyone know what sort of swell direction you need to get it working?

Hello Mate.

Steve here from the caravan park we have waves but not very clean any East or North swell works here even a SSE swell sometimes gets the point working if its big enough.Number 1 beach is North facing so a northerly wind ruins it.

Whatever happened to the surfing spirit of adventure, the right of passage learning about your local than as you got older getting into your car and learning about when and why other spots work...

Traveling and finding waves IMO is the best thing about the surfers lifestyle.

Just another beautiful part of surfing that has disappeared.

Guess you just ask online these days and someone trying to fill their camping ground will respond.

Wow. Guy just answered a question. Didn't ask him to stay at his park. And there's nothing wrong with asking someone who knows. Spread the aloha

^^ I stand by everything except the campground bit, that was too far.

Wasn't meant to be personal, just the trend these days, someone asks a q and then someone comes along spills there guts...

I just that I think your missing the point of surfing if you have to ask online. The adventure and fun of looking is is what it is all about... IMO.

Nice edit

Whatever happened to showing a bit of respect to other surfers, or just people in general, instead of coming in here just to rip in cause you were prompted to by another post. You did well though, just as you were asked.
I'm pretty sure this a public water sports forum where people can source info from other like minded people.

What edit???

It has been quoted mate. I cant edit your quotes.. or Zeusmanns.

Doesn't matter what I write or edit it doesn't change your quoted bit...

But thanks for making stuff up and encouraging just what you accused me of...

The Internet - that's what happened!

Big southerly groundswell will also get into Seals and even more so the beachbreak. It can be really nice in some horrid southerly weather, as I have discovered many a time coming over the hill to go fishing with no boards!

Seals Rocks is still a hidden gem unlike Bondi mate.
Crowds are down and locals like to keep it that way.
It only takes one carload to ruin a good surf.
Ask the WA boys where the best 'secret' surf spots are and see your response - or lack there of.

There are no secret spots in WA absolutly zero none at all, in fact trigg point is the only surf able wave on the entire WA coastline

Gees SP life doesnt always lend itself to the "surfers lifestyle" as you put it. Would love nothing more than a leisurely jaunt up the coast but the "non-surfers lifestyle" gets in the way.

Time on waves is what I am after and if I can save myself a few hours travelling by asking on the generosity of others i dont see the problem.

BTW thanks to all those for their comments.

All Benji said was that he was going to Seal Rocks and asked what swell direction gets it working. He didn't ask for spots to surf or secret spots for that matter.

unless seal rocks, treachery or for that matter any other spot in the vicinity has been re-hidden there is nothing secret or hidden about that area. I know I checked online

I would really like to say Seals is a 'secret spot'. However, you go there now and it is as packed as anywhere else, including the usual contingent of backpackers and surf tours. Thanks to Ben Cropp, place got 'outed' back in the 60's as the spot to be a hero spearing 'killer' grey nurse sharks. I guess this started freeing up a bit of space in the line-up for surfers?

Unfortunately that disappeared when they put surf cameras in.
