Just thought I'd bring back a popular and very old thread after I read this article - thanks Mac.

www.theage.com.au/business/battle-of-the-boards-making-big-waves-20120105-1pmsh.html

I particularly liked the last sentence.

"It's like sticking a fat man on a treadmill," he said. "First he doesn't like it, but then he gets into it."

A fairly balanced article apart from the bit about the economy better off in the second last paragraph.

If this guy really is a teacher he is not one I would entrust with my childrens education.

I am starting to understand why people want to beat him, not because of the cheap boards, because he is a douche.

Only learners buy that crap anyway. Anyone who surfs all the time isnt going to use that type of board.
GSI is doing well because of this, thats his market.
In saying that he does a few top end brands as well, Webber, MCT etc.

To say imports will benifit all is very short sited , we have just lost Harold Iggy & I would not like to speculate on the morality of some of the great shapers . Question is if GSI and others are importing boards from these countries truly great shapers like Bob Mct ETC are going to be few and far between in 10 to 20 years. It would be more responsable for the likes of GSI to invest western manufacture , price isn't everything
