Hi everyone,
I am going to be using my board at rivers and lakes to begin with to try to improve my basic skills and will be going off rocky areas, boat ramps etc and thought I should wear shoes. (Bogans at the boat ramp think it is hilarious to smash beer bottles)
Do any of you use surf shoes or the like while SUPing and do you have any advice on what to look for when buying some shoes for this purpose?
I would greatly appreciate the help.

Although I don't wear them on my board I have a pair of Zhik shoes, the sneakers, I use on my boat and at work as I have some problems with my feet so I need comfy yet light shoes that drain water when wet, they aren't cheap but they are very good and grippy, they sponsor three well known Sup riders, Kelly Margetts, Stuart Murray and Terrene Black BTW, they have several types of shoes/boots to choose from depending on your wants/needs.

I have seen some Mystic water sneakers that are black, with flat grippy undersoles. They look like skate sneakers not booties. They drain.
Probably made for SUP or wakeskate .

Got some Fila Skeletoes that I wear occasionally for long distance paddles, for a bit of arch support, they're quite comfortable. Vibram 5 fingers are good too ( if they work for your feet ) with some models designed for on-water use.

Alternatively, you could get some EZ plugs or those dots that DJ uses and some bungee cord and take your thongs/crocs if whatever on board with you.

I wore my cheapo, reef shoes today when paddling at a boat ramp. Any tourist beach store has them for $10

For long flat water paddles or paddling in shallow reefy areas I often wear Croc's.

Hi supnewbie,

As Humancartoon mentioned, vibram five fingers are great and I am onto my second pair. I currently wear the KSO model however that have been superseded. They have released a new pair called the Signa specifically for use on the water but not sure whether they are available in Australia yet (maybe import them .....cough)
In the winter here I wear last years O'Neill Psycho Freak 3.5mm and they are super toastie in the freezing conditions of Canberra. I always have my ugg boots in the car for afterwards

Hope this helps

one advice - get your booties tight, because they stretch. at least one size.

i have superfreak tropicals. perfect. i never use the thermals, they're like standing in buckets of "warm water". i have a pair of each though.
wish i'd got the tropicals first.
