Is any one using the side mount rack adapters designed for kayaks for downwind/flat water SUP's? Trying to figure out how to fit a 28" wide downwind board and a ocean ski on the roof of a Subaru Forester.

Hi there Crazy Canuk, we have this set up for the dc 16 on the vw. I like to use this system as we have the 3 bar system on the roof. It also keeps the steering sytem up and cannot be damaged. My wife also has a 12'6 race board that has soft edges and sligly recees top deck.
I am amazed more people don't use them as the curved plastic hugs the rails.
Go for it. the best investment for us.
Ps. I'm a short ass and need a ladder to reach the top of the van.
Mark the hubby.

^ That the answer I was hoping for - out of curiosity which brand rack do you have?

Need to get into the rack store and have a look

Rola make a great rack with many options for all sorts of sporting equipment, check there web site. I've always had Rola's on my cars but they dont make one for my new wagon, so I went with Pro Rack.

We have the Rhino heavy duty areo bars, 1500mm wide. with the rhino side loading kayak things.
at the Excel race we were able to load 2x 17', 1x 14' and the 12 '6. and there was room between the two boards side by side.
They have a rear sliding kayak setup but i was worried that slide the boards would get damaged.
Good luck and you will feel safer with them on the roof.

To add to this has any one used the windsurfer mast carriers for paddles?

I've got to figure out what fits on the stock racks - think it's Rhino or Rola can never remember but I'll check.

Thanks for the help Mark and Mac

Jonathan, have you posted pics of your roof rack system before ??

Ladies & Gentlemen, Jonathan's system is awesome....

The rail roll out, then fold down to the side... you sort of mount the board to the racks, at side window level and angle, then lift the rack & board back up to the top.

No pics taken or posted, but I'm sure DJ can help out with that next time we catch up for a paddle. Thanks for the compliment Simondo!
