I recommend something around the 7 1/2''-8'' blade width..

Same weight and similar boards.

I am one of the few in the bigger is better for surfing camp. When I go back to a smaller paddle I can't generate the usual power I need to get through and catch waves. The big paddle is also better for getting up and paddling.

Like at the end of the day you can always push less of the blade under when simply paddling, but it is nice to have that extra surface area there for generating power when you need it???????
