Today the swell was kinda up there so I took my 11'2 and sucker cam to find a quiet wave.
Was I wrong! I counted 65 out at one spot and that wasnt even Trigg Point!
So I checked our usual places to stand up paddle surf but they were mostly closing out. I was pumped.
It was about mid tide which is usually ok for these spots but because of the big swell it caused the take off zone to really boil.
Rocks everywhere all less than a foot under water.
There was plenty of water moving over the flat slab of reef that the wave usually breaks across.
It was very sketchy.
Spent a bit of time putting my poor body in betwwen the reef and the 11'2's soul.
Enjoy

YouTube canned my prodigy song so click on the link below for the original vid

great vids greeny ,you have to suffer for your art .even without the wide angle its cool ,you get to check out foot placement etc , do you have full eva deck grip on your board ? and if so how does the sucker on the gopro to stick ? just starting to get my act together on the whopper and thought i should be doing some self evaluation vids to improve myself and give everyone else a laugh..
cheers

Thanks.

Hey Greeny - love the vid. There are two things that really stand out about you (apart from the hair/shorts/legs/booties etc)

1. You sup like the majority of us - that is honestly and no wank factor or b/s and that is refreshing. (and rare)

2. Your choice of equipment - the 11'2 s/b is an amazing board and you do it justice every time.

Be an absolute pleasure to surf with you one day.

Hey cheers everyone for watching and thanks for the comments.
The place is not a surfing wave. Infact I have never ever seen anyone surf this place and I grew up in the area. When I started SUP I had my eye on the place as it looked fun and doable in small swell. But yesturday I found out the hard way that its not that doable on a big swell hehehe. Thats why you see me dropping in on the wave then pulling off out the back. If only you could have seen what the wave and water was doing.
Im actually using my Olympus camera cable tied on the Casso Sucker.
I will take a photo of the set up for you to see.
My 11'2 has the full EVA but the Starboard logo isnt. Thats where I stick the sucker.

Got the dent puller from SuperCheap for $8.
Went to BCF to find a float but they had none. Also checked Kmart and they had nothing. Next place Im gonna check is a marine shop.
So I used a drink bottle and it floats fine.

Nice vid Greenroom, looks like a tough session. I think Youtube might have pulled your music, couldn't hear anything.
As for the float ,there used to be a great fishing tackle shop in South Freo that sold all types of floats for making nets, just passed the old Freo Jail heading south. Haven't been back for a few years though so don't know if it's still there.

Yeah YouTube didnt let me use Prodigys song so I chose another one that they pre approved.
Kinda crap really coz now the vid doesnt fit in with the music. Thats how I usually edit them.
Anyway try this link

Drink bottle is a great idea, and to think I was going to connect a pot float!

One thing I found with the sucker cam on the front of my board was the way it added heaps of drag to the board when your paddling out punching through waves. Some sort of cowling would be the go,like the lifeguards rescue boards with cameras on "Bondi Rescue",they look and work really well, but I bet they are worth a squid too,

Hey Greenie,

I have the same camera that you have.

Your mounting the camera on the side, how do you flip the format in Youtube so you can play it back in portrait or vertical format??
