I just snapped my 11ft NSP and the guys at surf industries are helping out by supplying a new board at less than wholesale price. Has anyone had any experience with a snapped paddle board and the success of repairing and the strength after repair? I am going to keep it for flat water only paddling.
I have repaired a lot of snaped eps epoxy short boards and mals ,have had no dramars with them breaking in that repair ,have had one surfer snap a new epoxy just above the fins on his first surf ,fixed it and he snaped it thru the middle on the next surf .i still have a few carbon railed short boards to put back together .
Snapped boards are a perfect opportunity to develop your fibreglassing skills! Repaired snaps are as strong as new, but never surf the same again anyway, even when done by a pro. (because of changed weight and flex) Save yourself some serious money, and have a crack yourself. Getting the rocker line right is the most important bit IMO.
Agree with mac - some brands are much more prone to snapping/creasing than others however NSP is not generally one of those brands. I have seen and done things on nsp sups that would have destroyed certain other boards - they are as tough as nails. Good to see GSI looking after you though.
Gizzie, there was nothing fortuitous about it, I just know it costs more money and I need to work to pay for it. where is the senendipity in that!!!!... but yes them's the breaks...
I dont get why people dont expect things to break - all boards can break with the right force - I also dont get why anyone would expect the company to warranty it - I see they were helpful in offering a discounted replacement and that is nice of them but boards break - you can be unlucky with any board
I don't see snapping as an issue of time. If you get unlucky you can just as easily snap a board on the first surf as you can on the hundredth. Always a sore point on a newish board though.
