Just got this info from my brother:
You should start targetting snapper in Port Phillip Bay on your SUP.
There's been heaps at the moment up to 6kg.
They are taking 4" Powerbait flickbaits in the Pumpkinseed colour on 1/6th oz jigheads - heavy duty hooks. These soft plastics have a forked tail. Also get a pack of 6" Atomic Guzzler flick baits in that electric pink and green colour with a heavier 3/4oz jighead and longer hook. I would try around those reefs around Olivers Hill and Daveys Bay - They look great. I'll send you a google Earth image of some likely spots. If you have a GPS mark these reefs into it.
When you get to the reef, Have one rod with a heavier 3/4oz jighead and drop it to the bottom and wind up 4 turns and leave it sitting there. With the other rod just drift across the reef and cast ahead of yourself and do nothing for 20 seconds. By this time the SUP would have caught up to the line. Twich the line, wind in a bit and pause. Do the same thing 2 or 3 times then wind it in and recast.
If you get a hit, straight away mark that spot on your GPS and keep working that exact area.
On the first image, the placemark on the far right looks prime. Concentrate on the inner and outer edges of the hole. Pelican Pt also looks great and work within the triangle because thats where the deeper scattered reef is.
Best time: Subtract 1 hour from high tide and fish the 3 hours before it. That's the best time up here so it could be the same in Melbourne.
He does sound like he knows what he's talking about. I'll have to give it a try soon, when that wind dies down. I'd love to get a big Snapper - the ones with that big lump on their head.

That's so funny DJ. Is that your board? I reckon he's about 2 - 3 kg but he sure would look good on my barbecue.
