Hi all,

I am looking at options for transporting my 11'6 SUP.

The issue I have is some trips I'll go down the coast without the family so I'll likely drive my old corolla....if its a family trip in the mazda CX5 !!

Rather then forking out for fixed roof racks for both vehicles, I was looking at these curve soft racks: http://www.curvesurf.com.au/collections/surfboard-soft-racks-australia-rack-pads-tiedowns/products/sup-soft-racks-sup-car-rack-paddle-board-racks-australia-by-curve

Look like a good system however I am slightly concerned about the possibility of scratching up the roof of the mazda !! old scratched up corolla not so much ! I'd be travelling a couple of hours each way - Canberra to South coast etc.

Has anyone used these types of racks previously and had any issues with scratched roofs etc ???

Any tips or recommendations would be great !!

cheers,

Kookie

Hi.
Tried a different brand on my wife's cx5 when my car was out of action. No scratches but the cx5 has a curved roof that is very easy to dent so beware. Probably the same on a lot of new cars as the panels are thinner than they used to be.
A dent may be harder to fix than a scratch. Also found that if it rains the webbing is really good at wicking the water to the interior.
So I'd only use soft racks for short journeys on cars with robust roofs and if it's not raining.

As above..when it rains the straps are like taps..and the interior will get wet..they are also prone to noise and vibration.. I purchased a lockrack system.. Best decision I made..if you want silence, security and piece of mind that you board is not going to fly off the roof.. These things are a must IMO

Put an old towel on the roof first to stop the scratching.

Soft roof racks are good for very short trips or overseas holidays, but they are as Supmaori describes....
