The new 2014 Fanatic race boards looked like they were about to pop..

Must have been left in the sun too long.. or maybe about to give birth to a baby sup..

I'm thinking if Adrian Newey designed a sup race board if would look like this.. Pretty amazing..

Robby wouldn't let them make a board so ugly.. even if it is fast..

Here's some more pics from yesterday.

You know Wiery these new Fanatics might be great race boards and they might be fast. I wouldn't try to take that away from them.
I have two Fanatics at the moment 9'6" All Wave and 12'6" Fly. Both are great boards and I have been extremely happy with them.
I have been in the market for a 14'er for a while and have looked at most boards. I narrowed it down to three that i thought suited me and my purposes best.
These were Naish Glide, Coreban Dart and Fanatic Flacon. I have tested all of these boards and the Falcon and Dart twice. I wanted to buy the Falcon to keep my quiver Fanatic.
I won't be buying a Falcon. The reason being that they just aren't comfortable enough or stable enough for regular long distance paddling and touring that I do. I have to put too much effort into staying upright and balanced on them. When I first got onto the Falcon I had to really concentrate on being stable. For me that is an issue. Both the Dart and Glide didn't have this problem. Just jump on and go.
Whilst I am not trying to take anything away from the new Falcon it will not suit everybody and I think Fanatic have gone too far towards a race board and lost the touring and recreational side in this pursuit. Not everyone who paddles a 14' board is trying to win a race or break a record.
I would like to stress here that I am not rubbishing these boards I don't have the knowledge, skills or ability to do that.
I will definitely say though that the new Falcon doesn't suit me or my use.

Oh yeah I might have to agree with DJ, they do look a bit like they are going to pop.

Have fun.

Some great points the ET, well my falcon has left the shop and is here tomorrow yeeeew.
its great that you can take your time and test different poards
but I'm to impatient and couldn't be bothered procrastinating so if it doesn't work,i'll move it on.
its funny i hear my nephews and mates debating surf ski designs, dolphin this and Hayden that ,
just the same as sups

How heavy are you? Most people around here have said its the most user friendly board they have ever been on( Not my words)!! Yes it will for sure win races with the right motor on top but the main thing with this board when we made it was making a board that everyone can use yet still have the advantage of been a race winning board. For me it's great being able to ride a production board that anyone can buy of the shelf and know if they have put the training in then they can be up the front!! and after the last few days off doing some DW paddles with a bunch of guys who just got their new boards and seeing how much easier they were doing it there compared to the other boards they were riding. The Ray is the real tour board for fanatic nice and wide great for fishing and that kind of thing but i would hate to do a race on it! LOL

Hahaha DJ i wouldn't be so sure on Robby never making something like this!! i remember when he told me he didn't really like the canoe's then the Catalina came out!! Will be keen to hear how all the boys go on them down there!!

Paul,
You hit the nail on the head with "you would hate to do a race on it". I have no intention of racing.
I am 59 years old, weigh in at 85kgs, have surfed all my life and paddled for around 7 years both still, surf and ocean. I am pretty fit for my age and keep up with most guys In the Noosa area.
Chris DeAboitz, Woogie, Keahi, and ?Breeny excepted of course.

I am not disputing the quality or ability of these boards, but its not for me. As I said not rubbishing these things merely giving my views.

I'd like to know why there was supposed to be a Fanatic demo from 11.00 till 3.00 at Middle Brighton which as all wrapped before 1.30? The trailer on the way back to Sydney WHICH IS WHY I COULDN"T FIND IT!!!!. Vics get the short end of the stick again!! Lucky RPS had some 2014 Allwaves and Prowaves and a wicked 8'10 Mana to look at, and soon to demo hopefully. Thanks Warwick, Rob really appreciated your help and I had fun talking crap to Shaun. The Prowaves really do look sweet. Who needs the trailer????. They might go fast but you can see Sebastien Wenzel has based the Falcons design on a racing clog!!

Yeah thats cool, just from what i have found is some time a good race board make the best touring board as well but as you say everyone sometimes wants different things out of boards and one board can not suit everyone! Hope you find that perfect board for what you need it to do.

I paddled the board at the Noosa Demo day.
Adam from Naish told us that it was 27.5 but it had a 24.5 sticker on it.

They are very stable..

I first paddled the 27" wide 12'6" and expected tippy.. At first there is a bit of tip but the secondary stability kicks in early and all's good.

I almost wasn't going to even try the 24" wide 14'er but I did and I was fine in that small chop but can't imagine downwinding it myself because I'm tall and wobbly.. Most people should be fine.

Hey Paul.. I'm sure Naish snuck that Catalina through while Robby was away on holidays..

Just wondering.. Is there a plan for a touring version.. You could stick a hatch in the top of that big bubble and keep your keys and wallet.. and Croc's and even a change of clothes.. and maybe also a slab of beer in there..

They are one of the most user friendly boards that I've paddled .. Change of directions is easy with that spoonie shaped nose.. George Greenough would love it.. Can't wait to see it on a downwinder and see if you burry the nose at full speed the board comes to a full stop and then fires you out backwards..

I actually really like it... and I also like puffer fish..

The more i think about it the more I want that 14 , comparing price v performance its a winner. The volume also suits the bigger guys. I think my next two boards will be that 14 Fanatic 27" and the 12,6 Lahui Kai by 26" .I rekon pin tails are a must for a fast board , but for surf bop you need the stability of the wide arseOk just about to put my starboard 14 on here for sale , will suit a lighter guy or girl super fast board in the flats , can be downwinded and surfed if your light and have good balanceWill be going for a bargain price
