The recent swell made its way into Sydney Harbour during the week. Here are some photos of my brother and I . Would be interested to hear if anyone else managed to get stand up waves inside Harbour this week.

Nice one Ben - great pics!
Nothing like a harbor surf!!
We spent a lot of time looking for waves over Balmoral way but the wind was right into it! Neveer thought Nielson Park would be working considering it was an easterly swell and Nielson faces west!! How does that work??

Found this video on Aquabumps from Maarten van Dun - nice work!

Next time its on send us a PM and we will come over and join you!

Not in the harbour-but a bunch of us rode inside Pittwater during the week.

I surfed Neilsen Park (and S Head) a bunch of times in the 80's.

Where'd you go, Loco? I planned to paddle over to Mackerel on Wednesday but it wasn't really getting in there. There was a tiny, short wave just up from the Palmy Ferry wharf but very inconsistent.

Yeah we rode that wave off the Golf Course just N of the ferry wharf-it was small and inconsistent but great novelty value-just a gigglefest really-we all had a laugh-most everyone out there we very accomplished short board surfers stuffing around on SUP boards.

Be years before we get the opportunity again.

You a mate of Jun?

Always on the lookout for a Harbour wave as these are the days you remember!

This was one of the better days off Middle Head- circa 1997!

Towing in on wakeboards!

But nothing beats the swella of '74.
This shot is from Balmoral looking north towards Manly - waves were breaking from South to North head and continued to break the whole way down MIddle Harbour to Chinaman's beach - near the Spit Bridge!! Lots of damage up and down the coast and a boat ended up in Balmoral Baths!!

We surfed 6'+ Balmoral and Chinamans beach as grommies! I clearly remember having to duck under the wire of the old shark net off Balmoral point as we came charging through.

Oh to be a grommy again!!

Good one. I should've tried it out.

There are a few "secret" or novelty spots around Sydney that break in the right conditions and very occasionally including: Kurnell groynes; Malabar bay; South Head and inside Botany Bay near the golf course.

Hey all,

yesterday it was breaking a good 4ft at Balmoral, i love it when it breaks there! though it only really works when the swell is reaching about 8-10ft solid. btw, great pics of nielsons park, ive surfed there when it was breaking once.

does any one have any good pics of Balmoral when its been braking? or any pics of the 1973 storm???

thanks,

in 1972,if i remembered correctly a storm took out sydney and waves from that event destroyed manly pool and put yachts up on north harbour reserve, imagine how big it was to knock down manly pool.the boardwalk around the outside was 10 ft above the water and waves broke over that
