Remember tour start tomorrow
Watch out for Davo Muir in the first rounds riding the new 8 1 indianoceanpaddlesurf comp boards

Should be a real change to see Dave on the custom boards in the smaller waves

Go Davo

AN 8'1"???? He must be up to his knees in the water. Isn't he 90 + kgs??'Hilly told me once, unfortunately I lived through the 60's and 70's and my brain is like swiss cheese. He's a big unit, What's he weigh again?

I think it is more like 100kg+. Interesting to watch him surf on such a small board, hopefully they get some waves to show his skills.

The board is a new design and floats him very well
Hopefully we get some waves to show his skills
At recent trials he has really ripped on this board

He also has a a 7 11 which we have been developing

Which he may surf in brazil

Stay tuned for the new T M designed boards

Just looked at the results from the trials...

Kai smashed it it rounds 1 and 2, not just winning his heats but getting the highest overall heat score in each round!

Great stuff Kai, looks like you showed them what you're made of!

Unfortunately he just got edged out in round 3, finishing =9th overall in the trials with the top 8 progressing through to the main event.

Bummer for Kai, he would be gutted knowing how competitive he is.

Well done though, shows he is def good enough to match it on the so called World Tour.

I've seen some inept judging of surf comps over the years ,but that was obviously bias to young Kia , at least 6 are into the main round ahead of him who wouldn't make a final at any local club comp here..2 or 3 of the local crew have excellent skills and well done to them. lets hope the Aussies get a fair shake in the main event.

Here's a feed to watch it , I think it's Kai's trails semi he is surfing circles around them all , conditions are crap , really suit Kai. Some of the other Brazino competitors were so average. He could have won it twice with his top 4 waves , check out his interview at 28.50

Terrible filming and commentary.Plus it's full of ads. Kai's first wave at 8.08 min. watch right until the end and you will see his last qualifying heat , so close. Kai was unlucky and a touch ripped he battled hard , only needed a 3.5 to scratch through , I would have given it to him , he was so solid on his feet. Unlucky young man you did the Aussies proud.

The Aussies were well represented with Keahi de Boitz , Jackson Close , Beau Nixon , Justin Holland , Dave Muir & Kai Bates. Have I got it right that not one got through ?

no .....main event next...tomorrow??....These were trials for the younger blokes ??? and most of them looked like sunday afternoon paddlers and yes very extremely biased judging as a result.
Kai seemed to be going hard the whole time and it stood out.

Anybody just see Keahi drop from 2nd to third in his heat, putting him in repercharge? Got edged out by another Brazilian on the buzzer......

Is it me or is there something wrong with the way the draw is being run?

Kai Lenny and Renato Wanderley meet each other in round 1 and progress straight to round 3 were they again meet each other and win so they progress to round 4 were they are now meeting each other again?????

Surely winner of heat goes to one side and number two to the other side of draw so you don't have to go up against the same guy right through to the final????

Why would we want to see the same two riders (applies to the rest of the riders if same two win as well) meet each other potentially 7 times??? Surely its not fair to the riders and perhaps spectators would like to see these two go up against other riders as well???

Or am I missing something?

Anybody else notice the starboard boards most of the guys were riding? Didn't get a close up of Sean's but all the other guys were riding very short boards with wide square tails. Kind of a chisel tail. Probably a groveller but interesting to see.
Also on the board side of things I noticed Mo was riding a quad. After last years Brazil event I was a big Mo fan and thought his rail surfing was some of the best I had ever seen. His quad surfing was as you would expect (shorter turns) and maybe that was a good choice for the smaller surf but from a spectators point of view I much prefer to see him riding a thruster. (Interesting fact:Mo's board for big Sunset Beach at the start of the year was an 8'1" Rawson) What did you guys think?

I only saw the last 10 mins of the final. Justin's 3rd last wave was scored in the 5's. It was one of the best waves I've ever seen anyone ride a sup. I thought high 8's at least. Go figure!
