Hi Guys,

I'm looking at getting into a bit of SUP and just looking around at some boards. I saw Star surf had some of their own brand SUP boards. 10 foot had a fish tail and what looked to be inserts for those smaller fins on the sides. It looked to be two different settings or would it just be 4 smaller fins?

Anyway does anyone know anything about these boards? I'm not sure what I'm looking for really but I thought it strange that this board had no middle fin ( like a windsurfer ) where all the others I have seen either have a single fin or single and those little fins on the out side.

Signed,

Can't surf but can windsurf and would like to SUP.

Whats some good boards for starting out? Only windsurfing background, was thinking not to get something too big because I only weigh around 70kgs. How much are the various boards in WA?

Was asking about the Star surfboards SUP because it was pretty cheap.... $1000 just didn't know how it would perform.

hey man... Ive got this one for sale super cheap... $450 in the buy sell section

9'10" x 27.5" x 4.5" Tri fin

I learnt on it on flat water no problem before going in the surf (Im 75kg) and have paddled up to 6kms on it.

Its a little tippy in the chop but not too bad.

The rails need some repairs but other than that its pretty good

Hey Tozza,

I use to own the 10 ft fish from star surf. learnt on and it went fine. Surfed both waves and flat water paddled. They're great value for money and cant realy fault them.
Have progressed now and ride a 10ft Honalua. Great board but more costly.Good luck finding a board let us know what you get and it peformance.

Hey Tozza,
The boards were designed by Wooly and Chris-a really good longboard shaper from Star Surf in Perth/Mandurah. It's an epoxy composite blend.
I've surfed the 10' at one of the demo days and they're pretty good. I think you can run that one as a quad from memory.
The focus was on surfabiltiy with that one so that it was more manoeuvrable in the waves-it also means they are a little tippier than a wider/longer model. So if it's your first board, maybe go a bit wider or longer-depending on your weight size and make it easy for yourself.
Glenn in the Star city store can fill you though or Wooly if he's about.

Thanks guys,

Yeah Wolly replied to my email, apparently the 11' boards are sold out so that leaves the 10' or 12'.

The 12' I was thinking might outgrow a bit fast and the 10' may be a bit tippy - for starting anyway - so now I'm torn :p
