Hey Guys,

We just recieved the first shipment of the Starboard 12.6 Pins and K15.

Out of the box they look fast. We will get to paddle them on the weekend!

Pre-ordered boards will ship out tomorrow.

Here are some pics.

Like all the Starboard Range it depends on which construction you get but in Tufskin (pictured) the 12.6 is $1899 the K15 is $2349.

The Classic construction is a little cheaper and likewise sport tech construction a little more expensive.

Not sure how they would go for downwinders but they are pretty fast in the flat water.

Hey Ian(Auswind) think its you?

What is the idea with the size 15ft i know in Germany they had a 14ft one the same as the 15ft board?. The 12'6 looks fast but it was the only board i didn't try.

What are you plugs on the bottom of the K-15 for?

Are they one way values for water release?

Hi Paul,

It's Michael not Ian,

The 14ft isn't available yet but will be in the future. It is a scaled down model to accomodate the 14" racing class in California.

The 12.6 Pin looks like it would go pretty well in a downwinder, Scotty McK has been doing quite a few of them on that board and is pretty stoked with how they go.

Zimbo - Yep they are drainage holes.

Thats alright mate i would just hate you to get one out in 25knots and 6ft surf and then realize, but for the flat water you can't go wrong

Fantastic looking boards and knowing starboard they will rock. Great to see some real thought going into these types of boards and it will be awesome to see if they are as great an allround race craft as the penetrators.

Different looking boards , I think it's great that they are so different to Naish , can't wait to see them put up against each other.

Freedom of design I love it.

Here's your answer to the fin question Oliver.. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=53353

Note that they (K15) also have another fin half way up the board (not shown in this pic though).

Flat water board design is a whole different kettle of fish to down-winder board design.

So these are flatwater specific boards? Or are they capable in chop and downwinder conditions?

Just interested to know who they are competing with; eg Naish Glide or whatever?

Ditto I am interested to see how well the 12'6 goes in the open ocean with not much swell.

As I tend to go out in not very big swell and do most of my paddling on flat days or on the river so might be a good board for me as I dont really need a lot of rocker.

The K15 is clearly a flat water board, thanks Jacko just got a little bit excited when I first saw the pics and pulled a hamstrong jumping to my conclusion

Hi guys

I raced the K15 several times here in France(sportech version) and I can tell you it flies. On flat water, no wind no riptide, I usually run at 4,35 knots, for a top speed at 5,65(using my surf Kialoa Methane paddle)
It cuts the chop, regardless of its size.
The central fin is just a crap, you turn like a supertanker!
It is NOT a downwind board, the tail is too narrow.
But for average conditions, it's a red rocket
If you reed french, look at my blog on swelles.com, called the Docablog, pictures in action of the board

Thanks doc..and welcome to the Breeze... I was thinking that center fin was maybe just for learners to help balance..and that's all.. I'd not use it.

I smile to myself when I hear questions like 'can it be used for down-winders?'.. I think yeah.. if it's about 5 knots..

It does look like a great flat water board.. I'd love to add one to the quiver..

Do you have any problem lifting the paddle 'up and over' each time when swapping sides?

Reading the Starboard web site both boards are flat water specific. They don't mention waves or surfing at all. Lots of "... get the most out of your paddling." and "... enhances the efficiency potential of a flat hull.".

www.star-board-sup.com/products/bd_k15.php

ooohhhh the debate in my mind rages on.

Do I go more flat water or open ocean? It is just too hard so many variables and no demo boards (open ocean that is).

Better suck it up one of these days as I went out today at trigg for a paddle and loved it but the front of board (starboard 11'2) pearled too often for my liking and that was in pretty flat conditions so a flat water board would be even worse. Funny how even flat ocean conditions need some rocker on a board.

the k15 will also take a windsurfing rig, which is what i think the centre fin is for. Makes it like the starboard serenity.

Hi guys
To answer the question of DavidJohn(a long known name on Standup Zone..., where I'm known as Ronan), I have no problem to lift the paddle over the board to change sides, but I use my only paddle, a surf one which is only 7" more than my height.
I've raced open sea, and it depends on the conditions: that day, the wind was 20-25knots, 1,5 meter swell and the race was an HELL for me(you can see pictures on www.afternic.com/forsale/blog.swelles.com?utm_source=TDFS_DASLNC&utm_medium=DASLNC&utm_campaign=TDFS_DASLNC&traffic_type=TDFS_DASLNC&traffic_id=daslnc&), I had to knee down to keep my balance going upwind, and downwind was worse! But the conditions were a little bit extreme, and in more flatwater conditions, the K15 is fast!
Demoing everything I find on the market(Starboard The Point and K15, Naish 12 and 14 Glide), I might say that there is no Swiss Knife for the moment(I wish I could try the Oz marvel, the 12'6" Penetrator of Jonathan Cowcher).
And one little message about the gorgeous wooden 12' Velzy on the picture: it's a prone paddleboard, very rounded shape, no chance to even knee down on it, I sold it after three months...
A cool piece of design, not more
