I use a Fanatic bamboo/carbon combo, it looks great with the timber and is light just use a bit of tape around the blade to protect it from the occasional knock.

The Fanatic Bamboo Carbon 40 was my first paddle, loved it and also bought one for the missus, mine is still going strong after 3 years but her's is not looking so great as the outer resin got damaged and allowed water to seep in, definitely use electrical tape or similar to protect the blade.
