Booties definately serve their purpose around coral reef situations and cold , hard to get used to though, I've had to wear them in Indo (Gland) a few times 'pain in the arse' they feel terrible unless super snug (when wet) because your foot moves around in them
And if they're really tight then they cut circulation.
We resorted to putting a panel in our rashies so once out in the surf take the wretched things off and slip them down the back, like taking your socks off after a hard days work. aahhh !! thats better !
The five fingers may keep your toes from moving But I found that if your heel moves around then it feels really gammy, so foot size to bootie size for max performance and comfort is a big factor.

It may be a shame to cover some of that beautiful wood veneer but that board is built to surf so I'm with Brooko "grip that sucker" and surf the crap out of it like its begging you to do Ollie . Once you've had good grip wax is a mere bad memory.

Booties are essential around here. I surf on a reef a mile or two offshore and if I mess up my tides I occaisionally have to carry the board over several hundred meters of coral to get back in. Not to mention the bad juju that coral cuts will give you. Windy is not exaggerating there.

I have never tried the Crocs (am a member of aforementioned Facebook group) but I do get quite sore feet on flatwater paddles so I think i will have to test them.

Wantok ya, yu workim wannem?

Ha ha, mi stap long Port Moresby. Wokman bilong hengineering company.

Fortunately the Puk Puks have all been chased off our local beach. You dont have to go far though. I'd like to go on some expeditions upriver into the mangroves but its really not a great idea.

Wasn't much surf in Kainantu I'm guessing?

I actually prefer to surf a twinny in 2 foot slop than my SUP. Little boards have smaller arcs in small waves so these modern versions of the twin fin have plenty of speed and rip in little waves.

You know it !!

DJ I've never seen a picture of you in more than sleeveless vest and boardies! I dunno how ya do it. The water in the bay in winter would have to be only 12 degrees max and what about the wind?

Winter in Vicco, I'm in a 4x3 steamer. In summer, boardies on the rare occasion, a 3x2 short arm steamer mostly, water down here gets to a maximum of about 18-20 degrees (Western Victoria). Oh yeah, in summer we get an effect called the Bonny Upwelling, when the wind turns se the water temp at some spots drops to about 12 degrees as deep water spills up onto the continental shelf. An unpleasant surprise on a 40 degree day.

Yeah it's me alright.. I was waiting for the sea breeze to kick in and checking out how my new Hooper sail was setting and I noticed a film crew filming some motor scooters..and I also noticed the girls..

One of the photographers walked over to me and I thought I was going to be asked to move because I was in their shot but he said that me standing there with my sail looked good and would I mind standing there for a while and I said sure.

After the guy said what's your address and I'll send you a picture if they turn out ok.. They were filming for a motor scooter catalog (vespa I think) and then one day this pic turned up in the mail...She was very nice..

Booties are gay.... keep it real lads

After much deliberation I've made my decision to come out of the closet - I am hereby announcing in public - on this forum - that I am now officially GAY. And further I plan on staying gay until I get some clear deck grip on my new board. She looks so sweet - doesn't she? Who wouldn't turn gay for her.

I was thinking while on the long trek back to the city from Torquay, that a Geelong to St Kilda downwinder would have been the stuff of hell men today - it was absolutely howling - waist high waves in Albert Park. I'm looking forward to doing one of those with you guys sometime. I'm absolutely dying to use my board and mark out where the sweet spot is.

The pic of you DJ in your yellow wetsuit has been making me giggle all day - that photo alone really deserves it's own thread.

Pffffffft toad, that is very funny.

I'd love to have a guessing game as to when this shot was taken. There are some clues... Dj's hair cut, the yellow wetsuit, the vespa, the general vibe of the shot.

I really wouldn't have any idea but if I had to guess it would be February 1983
